I feel that Jack is trying to play too safe with his music, which is why it’s bland and boring
It was better then this one though.
But what is that really saying when this one was pretty bad?
album is like ok background music
I wouldn't even play it as background music tbh. He really got f***ed on the production end of things on this album.
His flow is super laid back and lazy so he needs the most interesting beats possible to elevate his songs. That's what Lil Nas X did with his album and I love that record. I still play it almost every day. The beats carry the load on that album and you'd think Jack would see that and do something similar but he just... doesn't.
Fortunately for him most of Jack’s fanbase (college aged white female NPCs) don’t even know what Pitchfork is. Jack will continue to get bigger and the industry will continue to force him down our throats.
this a whole hit piece im cackling
thats what it boils down to but dawg could’ve avoided this he set himself up
His first album was better imo. The hits hit better and did what it was supposed to for a debut. Deliver something promising. This album didn't do what the first album set up for it to do.
It's sad that I have to agree with you but you're not wrong at all. His debut album is definitely better.
Ok pack it up
Is he wrong?
Im surprised this aint that one dude
Strauss does more writing than Jenkins for rap these days.
But what is that really saying when this one was pretty bad?
The first one wasn't great but I think it was good enough to build up anticipation for this one. I enjoyed it.
Yeah. It makes you wonder who these dudes have around them telling them the mid they're making is fire. I don't know, man. This album could have been Jack's crowning moment. The moment he showed why he was worthy of all the hype and all the bruhaha around his name and he seriously dropped the ball.
Forget not ducking the sophomore slump curse, I'll be surprised if he ever gets this kind of chance to prove himself again.

Nas X had some good catchy melodys too
I do kinda want some Mac Miller trajectory for Jack tbh
I'd like to see him make good music
Jackadelic dropping next
I haven’t heard the album just a few songs so I can’t comment.
The observation from Strauss was literally the only reason I listened to the songs I did though. I was very impressed he percolated that into the review.
Pitchfork interest me in the actual review rather than the score. The score by their own admission isn’t set by the reviewer
Yeah, that's true. Reviewers don't set their own scores. That's why you can read a Pitchfork album review that's mostly positive and then see that it gets a 5 or a 6.
He's never going to be a super technical rapper but he did use to have more heart and energy in his older work. This song is a good example. He needs to recapture some of this for his future work.
He has to absolutely knock it out The park with his next album Kendrick taking the shine away is actually great so Jack can at least try to reinvent himself
The sad thing is that I don't think it'll matter how good his next album is. This was a career-defining moment.
y'all gotta chill his Take Care coming soon
Even if i'm not a huge fan of Thank Me Later, that album is a masterpiece compared to this.
A big mistake, however, was actually getting Drake on the song, as the veteran artist sounds like he has something worth saying. Meanwhile Harlow, despite the growing fame and unending fascination, is still finding his footing. He is funny online and in interviews and knows how to grab people’s attention. Without much to grasp with his music, it’s easiest just to stare.
howling
they just called him stupid
