Had no idea anew Pokémon game was out. Haven’t played Pokémon since game boy color. Going to buy today.

Bro your mind is about to break
Naaaaaah thought f*** it, Level 7 Dex Abra I'll just go over and get it to level 10 so I can shiny hunt it next time.
I swear. First attempt. Had to use my only Ultra ball to catch it.
Shiny Abra pops up in the Outbreak
1/158 chance. 3 shinies in less than 5 hours today

I think this game is leaning more towards the casual side of Pokémon (something like go or LGPE) nothing wrong with that but as much as I love catching, collecting, and exploring I feel like that only does so much for me and the battle system doesn’t feel as deep as other mainline games. I like some new things like frostbite and drowsy instead of frozen and sleep but agile/strong style feels like whatever. During a certain trainer battle late game I realized s*** was kinda bs how they handle turn order like I’d take out their mon and immediately after they can throw out there next Pokémon and attack without me being able to even select my own move or item/switch. Not a fan of it and it’s baffling seeing people saying they should continue future games battle system like this.
Swsh was very mid but it was the most competitive friendly game imo, had the most fun in online battles there (besides dynamaxing, worst gimmick by far). Take all the exploration, catching, and QoL s*** from PLA and mix with it normal battling mechanics/game format and that’d be the perfect Pokémon game for me. Maybe I’m tripping but I’ve seen so many people be like make a game just for battling/pvp/comp and another for stuff like this and that’s just as worse as having 2 versions of the same game. Loved this game and it’s the step in the right direction but I hope they don’t ostracize fans of comp/pvp and s*** but it’s gamefreak so gen 9 will be probably swsh 2.0
I can empathize with everything you’ve said, but I really do want the two worlds to coexist somehow and unless Gamefreak finally realizes it’s not sustainable to create and release a full game a year (which to be clear I really want them to just take 2-3 years off and come back correct) two separate mainline games with one in Legends style and one in traditional style feels like a good compromise
Idk - in general, though, the battle system is the worst part of an otherwise great game graphics aside. I constantly get confused by the lack of abilities as well. A version of PLA with normal battle mechanics, more frequent trainer battles/gyms, a larger map, and as many Pokémon included as possible would be perfect for me, but that’s a 3+ year project and I want them to actually take their time for something like that, but we all know how it goes by now.

Okay let me get some advice from you, because I feel like a f***ing idiot constantly scaring away Abras lol. I straight up still haven’t caught one. What’s the strat?
If Gen 9 is a mix of old and new formula then I could fw that
Large semi-open world routes that you traverse in Legends style with the same catching mechanics. A lot more trainer battles. Gym leaders + E4. Fine tune some of the mechanics (especially exp) and menus.
Could be something special

Use some bait and catch it offguard. I just used an oran berry.
Wait a second before you approach it though let it catch the scent first

These b******s didn't move, and when they spawned off they came back.
I don't know if that's because it's locked to the Outbreak 🤔🤔🤔
I was able to just throw ball after ball.
If you're struggling at the moment maybe hold off till you get smoke 🤔

I 100% agree with you on the battle system. It's definitely a BS system. It's kind of barebones compared to the other games. It's said in the tutorial the speed stat effects the turn order. I have yet to have my Pokemon have multiple turns without using agile style.
NAAAAAH IVE GOT ANOTHER F***ING SHINY ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
All in one day..by far the best shiny hunting game

Honestly if they could actually work on something for 3+ Years i be down for that, maybe even have ILCA do something else for those hungry ass fans who need something every year. Basically PLA and BDSP but longer and more effort
Initial impressions before getting to Kleaver
I like this style of roaming around and catching pokemon. It's cool to just venture off and see what pops up although there isn't a whole lot of variety at the moment. I'm still in the first area I guess. I did randomly see a Chimchar walking around and crouched down to catch it. That was dope. Also saw a Gyrados flying around but figured it'd be too high level for me.
I like the way trainer battles and battles in general are handled but I would prefer if we couldn't move our trainer during battles. It doesn't serve a purpose so far and I'd prefer if they just gave us a seamless transition into a nice fixed angle that was over the shoulder.
Some small gripes I have with pastures
1. There's no way to sort the pastures? Like if I just want to sort by species and have all of my starly grouped together, all of my bidoof grouped together. Doesn't seem like I can.
2. Why would they include stats and EV's on the pokemon overview but leave out nature? Now I have to go into summary every single time to check the nature of a pokemon before decide which ones I'm keeping and which ones I'm releasing.
I'm not a big fan of open world games so I'll see how I feel about it as I continue to play
You know how I feel about the nature's, but they made the game some simplistic that getting the best nature isn't even necessary because you can offset stats with the new EV system them have.

I feel like I can’t s*** on it too much cause it’s not really the main focus of the game, but god forbid they keep this system going forward s*** is buns.

Yeah it needs tuning or to go back to the old system. It was literally nothing wrong with the old turn base system. The current one has flaws and no wonder it's no competitive in this game. Imagine if your opponent can swap out and still have a turn to attack.
Yeah gen 9 needs to be like this, but with a fully open world, cities, villages, ...
Keep the catching and battling system like this, keep the QoL improvements like easier Pokemon management, etc.
And add gyms and E4.
The foundation for the GOAT Pokemon game is there, they just need to improve this, if needed - hire more devs to improve the graphics, etc.
They honestly don't need to hire more people. They just aren't good period as devs. They have more employees than they ever did during Gen 1-5 and the quality nose dived.
best Pokémon soundtrack ever?
That's because it's all remixed Gen 4 music. Gen 2, 4, and 5 have the best soundtracks.

It’s a lame ass tug of war battle, one of us takes out the others pkmn and turns into just that back and forth, imagine how’d it even works with doubles

I think a lot of people will agree with you. In my first impressions when I said I like how they handled battles I was strictly talking about the look and feel
How we see our trainer and pokemon together. The way we toss the pokeball and they pop out. How the trainer makes movements when they make commands.
I can do without the agile/strong gimmicks and turn order nonsense tho

Everything about how the battles look and feel is so good, I wish it was more of it but I really dislike the new system and in the post game it’s like battling the same 7-10 people over and over again, and none have a full team
feel like an old man stuck in the past seeing people say they like this battle system more, kinda think those who do never enjoyed battling in the first place
