I think it makes sense for it to be unprecedented, it’s really important to remember situation will be a bit different from any past console release. BW2 launched in 2012, after the 3DS came out. You could put it into the 3DS even though it was just a DS game, and it wasn’t really upgraded in anyway it’s just standard back compatibility

Switch 2’s 8-year hardware leap will be quite different, if you just put a basic switch game into it you will notice a big difference in a few key ways:

1. load times would just be much better because it’ll have newer, faster storage. this happened when you just ran ps4 games on ps5 with no update needed. red dead 2 for instance loads like twice as fast.

2. frame rate will be smoother, obviously it would need a patch to lift the frame rate cap, but games that failed to run smoothly in 60fps will now be a smooth 60fps

3. Games ran in 720p on switch handheld, but are programmed to run at higher resolution docked, so the switch 2 could have a 1080p handheld screen and just use the games “1080p docked mode” that’s already built in to display the image

So the game will, without any updates, be a much better experience with basic back compat

Then on top of that you have the probability that they just drop a basic patch that lifts the frame rate cap and resolution for switch 2

This is a different type of cross-gen release, but it will be a special exception because of how back compat can work with a 8+ year tech leap

Gold version was great but Silver was crazy.

Gold was like the basic game and Silver was like Gold with Lugia in it. And their sprites were more dynamic.

I love Gold, but when the remakes dropped, I vowed the cop the opposite game of what I originally had (so Sapphire -> OmegaRuby, Blue -> Fire Red)

I was super excited to get SoulSilver cus I missed out on the OG.

And then Crystal was just too crazy. Never played Crystal, but it's one of the ultimate games of all-time. However, I'd still rank it tied with Emerald.

no, because NSO uses cloud saves, which opens up the possibility of cloning, and Pokémon is very against that

the most likely scenario is Pokémon releasing a custom Virtual Console type app with some earlier games on it (probably the Gen3 ones since they’re pre-double-screen and 3DS already had the GB/GBC games), but even that is probably not gonna happen anytime soon

This is the mainline game for 2025. The next generation game won't come out until 2026. The legends games are mainline games. They're not side games.

They could always disable the feature for those games. The 3DS had a GBA virtual console, Nintendo just never got around to adding it for everyone it was just apart of the ambassador program. None of these are really issues. They just never had a reason to do it because they were all still available via 3DS and the GBA Pokemon were in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire so it was never a need to add those to a virtual console.

base game cause it literally costs more money to get the one with both, like theres no discount, but the base game + dlc is cheaper if bought separate

Ahhh makes sense. Yeah the second DLC is what makes the whole package worth it. The first DLC was lackluster imo.
