I think alot of us forgot that in Pineapple Express seth rogan is dating a high schooler

I mean.. the movie drove home the point that his bum ass could only pull a high schooler because he was older.

Nah it definitely did. Just with what the film is about a lot of us probably forgot that was part of his character trait. I’m not saying they glorified it or anything

    Nothing problematic with this art?

Yeah the whole “art can’t be problematic” is probably the laziest take I’ve heard on this site

"the heart wants what the heart wants" is a line of dialogue to help explain away molestation. Why is so hard for you to say yes that is gross and bad "art"?

Honestly dude, go f*** yourself. I engaged in good faith and articulated my points in detail as to why I feel the way I do. There’s nothing lazy about my feelings.

Lmao I was on a childhood movie bing this holiday and ended up watching the mighty ducks trilogy.

Does that scene get chalked up as bad writing and forgetting Dean was a teenager in the film?

i don't even remember MD3 at all i rewatched the first one like 2 years ago

even oreo line was f***ed up

I honestly laughed at the Oreo line recently. Just over the fact they had little kids being nonchalantly racist

But you didn’t even make any valid points? I asked how isn’t kids being asked to get naked on camera considered problematic and you said “because my favorite movie is such and such”

I think I’m really done with this s*** site. I have so much better conversations about film elsewhere. I’d rather not engage with two people trying to pin me into a corner as some pedophile defender.

i mean i laughed at it too, and im not mad at it being there, because I know how clever kids can be with jokes, even racist ones.

there used to be a lot of race jokes back and forth in my school (mostly arabs vs somalians) and I remember it like it was yesterday, an arab kid in 4th grade sayin "somali elevators say max 50 kilos or 10 people", which is incredibly racist, very clever for a kid and also pretty amusing

You get off on being a little antagonistic c***. You accused Elric of being a pedo already for liking a film. You’re not worth engaging with.

this was after some kids in class made "baghdad" a verb for being broken/busted

like this computer is "baghdad" so the arabs were hungry for some kind of comeback

I’m not. You didn’t hear that come out my mouth even when you took that cheap dig by bringing up my wrongs towards Elric.

It would be hypocritical for me to apologize to him and then turn around and make someone else feel the same way.

I just brought up the Romeo Juliet example because to me that is a very valid example of a problematic/wrong situation in film. I literally can’t understand how it isn’t. So yes I view your take as “lazy” because you haven’t given any valid reasonings to why some of these films are not problematic, in your eyes.

Don’t be mad at me for your lazy responses. Especially when we’re discussing a serious subject matter. The response you gave me was “well my favorite film is __ so no I don’t think it’s problematic”

    That doesn’t even make sense.

You wanna die on this hill so bad that “art can’t be problematic” that you’ll just automatically deny any ACTUAL problematic examples just so you don’t feel like you’ve been proven wrong. It’s called being stubborn.

I already said that the production of a film can be “problematic” (although I wouldn’t use that word) but once the film is made and it becomes an abstraction like art very much is—then the conversation shifts to its merit as art rather than a breakdown of the ethics that went into it. Cannibal Holocaust is great, but the animal killings in it are obviously morally repulsive. However that fact doesn’t go into my evaluation of it as a film. The art will outlive that context we’re applying to it.

Maybe read my other posts on this subject in the thread. I didn’t feel like regurgitating the same points again and again.

Okay I can respect that take on the production can be “problematic” (I’m not crazy about that word either honestly cus it gets used very cheaply and loosely by twitter)
