i mean i laughed at it too, and im not mad at it being there, because I know how clever kids can be with jokes, even racist ones.

there used to be a lot of race jokes back and forth in my school (mostly arabs vs somalians) and I remember it like it was yesterday, an arab kid in 4th grade sayin "somali elevators say max 50 kilos or 10 people", which is incredibly racist, very clever for a kid and also pretty amusing

It would be hypocritical for me to apologize to him and then turn around and make someone else feel the same way.

I just brought up the Romeo Juliet example because to me that is a very valid example of a problematic/wrong situation in film. I literally can’t understand how it isn’t. So yes I view your take as “lazy” because you haven’t given any valid reasonings to why some of these films are not problematic, in your eyes.

That doesn’t even make sense.

You wanna die on this hill so bad that “art can’t be problematic” that you’ll just automatically deny any ACTUAL problematic examples just so you don’t feel like you’ve been proven wrong. It’s called being stubborn.

I already said that the production of a film can be “problematic” (although I wouldn’t use that word) but once the film is made and it becomes an abstraction like art very much is—then the conversation shifts to its merit as art rather than a breakdown of the ethics that went into it. Cannibal Holocaust is great, but the animal killings in it are obviously morally repulsive. However that fact doesn’t go into my evaluation of it as a film. The art will outlive that context we’re applying to it.
