I still think it's a good movie, but I'd have difficulty recommending A Clockwork Orange to any women I know because of those rape scenes
I'm sure there's worse/more graphic scenes out there, but that's the first movie that came to mind
so so sooo many ppl wished this movie would have been problematic and it wasnt lol.
they had police outside of screenings JUST IN CASE. insane time
Yeah the only problematic aspect of this movie is that it f***ing SUCKS
Also if u watch the wolf of Wall Street and think the lifestyle is getting glorified then we probably didn't watch the same movie

it was still problematically ass tho

Can't remember much except Kichael Caine dressed as a woman. What was problematic about it?
A lot of classics have casual blackface meant for comedy. Antonioni comes to mind
Love that film, but that scene was kinda

Handling of trans people
It's intentional. Martin is putting the lens on both Jordan Belfort AND the audience for cheering him on because it's a road that goes downhill as shown by the end of the film.

I remember walking away from the movie thinking he got off super lightly so i dont think the message was conveyed super well
Thats why david chase is the goat
He saw people glorifying his characters and then made them beat pregnant women to death as a result just to remind you not to do that
you can look at the movie very simply as just a story about Jordan Belfort's life, which in that case there is no problem with it.
but, i do think the movie glorifies yuppie culture. Jordan does lose his family and goes to jail in the end of it, but most people I know who love the film just see Jordan as being a fkn beast who finessed his way into some good times and money and was boning margot robbie, and the only thing he got was a slap on the wrist. Again, this could just be showing how unserious our justice system treats white collar crimes, thus making it a reality. but i dont think that necessarily a good reality to advertise in a sense, nor do i think many took away that message, more so just that being a scummy stock trader is fkn sick!
Lol every young investment banker I know LOVES this movie so it’s pretty much accurate what you said. They don’t care about the negative ending all they see is the f***ing sick lifestyle and riches and figure most don’t end up in jail like Jordan. Unfortunately I think a lot of men especially end up liking the movie for the same reason
scorsese doesn't humiliate his subjects, but he doesn't portray them in a positive light either. he just shows them as is (or as was, rather). he doesn't put his thumb on the scale in that sense.
it's up to the viewer to actually draw the conclusions based off their repulsiveness. lamotta isn't a cool guy, belfort neither, it falls on the viewer if they find it the opposite.
he makes those pictures because i guess we as humans have a grand curiosity for strange lives and complicated people.
the only exception i can think of is the aviator. i think it whitewashes howard hughes way too much
You should watch the movie before dismissing it as extreme for no reason.
Most of the posts itt aren’t problematic like op probably meant anyway.
It’s gonna be subjective per person lol to me movies that are extremely over the too violent are problematic. That’s all i’m saying but they get protected cause “they’re just movies” regardless of some underlying theme or not. What us the purpose of going so extreme with violence.
Prime example being Terrifier THAT particular notorious scene. To me it is problematic that’s being made cause what is compelling the director to have these ideas? Sure they are only movies and I get your point. Personally I find it to be concerning and problematic that’s all.
“The production was also affected by the numerous injuries and deaths of several indigenous extras who were hired to work on the film as laborers, and two small plane crashes that occurred during the film's production which resulted in a number of injuries, including one case of paralysis… relations deteriorated when Herzog began the construction of a village on Aguaruna land. He allegedly failed to consult the tribal council and attempted to obtain protection from the local militia when the tribe turned violent. Aguaruna men burned down the film set in December 1979, reportedly careful to avoid casualties.”
