what people dont realize when talking about writers is that what ppl see on screen is VASTLY different from what writers actually do. writers' input is rarely accounted for, s*** gets changed and moved around, dialogue gets rewritten and adjusted for actors literally while shooting any given scene. and yet it is the writer's task to make an entire project make sense, create invoking emotional dialogue, keep story engaging, make it clear no matter when you tune in, come up with characters and conceptualize entire premises, often without knowing whats it gonna look like in the end, how and what actor's gonna use these lines, what will be cut etc.

even then, you dont have to laugh at all the jokes and a lot of dialogue might be cheesy or dumb, but it should not in any way shape or form be reflected on how much anyones gettin paid off of it. there are diva actors eating up half a movie budget while driving everyone on set wild, or people getting paid insane money for two days of shooting. there are studio execs literally twiddling their thumbs and getting paid thousand times more than what writers make off of scripts. late night tv is literally built on writers' shoulders which is why your Kimmels and O'Briens support the strike full-stop; they wouldn't be there if it wasn't for their writers room

any text-related job is a drag and it is universally poorly compensated (I know that as a translation bach/aspiring copywriter); if theres a chance for someone to get at least somewhat paid for writing without going into tech or becoming an author then god damnit let them do that and treat them as workers and not as expendables
