There are 550,000 homeless people in America or so. Per inmate, we spend roughly 36k per year (of our tax dollars or however you want to phrase it. We spend 80 billion or so on prisons per year.

550k x 36k is like 19.8 billion. Not to mention jails already deal with overcrowding, among other inhumane things. Homeless shelters are certainly overcrowded as well, and they aren't run anything like how you weirdos prlly envision.

There are also 18.6 million empty housing units in the united states. You could fill them more than 3x with all the homeless people. But we know those empty housing units aren't necessarily in the same areas where the homeless are concentrated so that statistic might largely be just for show.

But, it has also been estimated that homelessness would take 20 billion to solve. Senate just authorized a 22 billion defense increase.

Also, not to mention studies show the most cost-effective way to treat homelessness is with, well what do ya know, houses.

So please stop making threads s***ting on homeless people or putting forth your dumbass solutions. All it does is make you look like an idiot.

Mentioning empty housing units seems irrelevant unless you're talking about 18.6 million run down shanty shack units that nobody wants.

No way in hell should we move homeless people into valuable units that just haven't been sold/rented yet.

Just build more shelters (NYC is building another 90 shelters this year even tho we already have more than enough room in our existing ones) and try to make sure they're reasonably safe. Anyone who doesn't want to go to a shelter needs to be evaluated for mental issues.

No no I like synopsis’s idea of putting them in shanty shacks. Much better.

you don’t seriously think state run mental hospitals would be more dangerous then prisons?

tbh im not doing much to help the cause of homeless people either but at least I look at them as human rather than as nuisance in the street

I find it crazy that ya'll would rather build thousands of entirely new piece of s*** 200 sq ft studios to house the homeless...cus thats what they'll be. You know that right? Nobody is building nice apartments for people to live in for free.

Instead of just making them live in the SHELTERS that are ALREADY BUILT. We have the housing for them! The homeless shelters have room breh. Just make them a little safer. Thats it.

they have historically been, yes, by unjustly condemning women, people without even “debilitating” or proven mental illnesses, harmful and predatory practices and basically being institutions where they can cram the disenfranchised lol

Asylums are inhumane, if someone didn't commit a crime they shouldn't be held against their will
