I like to champion under dogs and usually hate when people are handed careers by their rich parents or directed what to do by their record label but somehow Lorde pulled it off really great compared to someone like Billie Ellish who comes off as fake and is obviously an industry plant. When Lorde got awards it felt right because this album was actually good i like that she took her time on Melodrama and didn't capitalize on the hype from this right away. It doesn't get enough credit for it's influence on the mainstream pop sound and aesthetics.
For your last question I think it's better than Melodrama because I only listened to that once vs coming back to this a lot
Buzzcut season so underrated
What do you think it’s about?
like most of the songs on the album it's about adolescence. to me it's just makes me really nostalgic and think about the carefree times

I think we have to accept that labels will develop artists the way they did w Lorde
Truth is the music was f***ing amazing and deserved it and she’s clearly absurdly talented regardless of the backing
Plus making it in the US as a New Zealander is not f***ing easy label or not
Incredibly rare
not better than Melodrama for me but such a special album. great songwriting, and the understated production Joel provided set the perfect backdrop. it's Lorde's ode to youth and wasteful summer days with her best pals. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE??!
a couple came close on Melo but my favorite Lorde song is still A World Alone.

Yea I remember hearing some theories about it being about war
Buzzcut season as in like military style
“Explosions on TV”
“The men up on the news try to tell us all that we will lose”
But I feel like you’re definitely right and that it’s more about that stage of life when you’re starting to lose that bubble and realizing what the world is really like but kinda still clinging to childhood

Oh yeah I heard about the joining military thing too, the title fits the theory as well, but yeah I interpret it more as a bittersweet song than anything else

and nothing's wrong when nothing's true, i live in a hologram with you
yup your last sentence hits it on the head. you see it but you don't accept it. we're still just kids by the pool

Yea agree
Would be weird to actually be about the military considering the substance of the rest of the album

that slow burn wait while it gets dark...
bruising the sun
i feel grown up, with you, in your car

the picture those opening lines paint.
wish i liked Melodrama more tho lol
Melodrama a more different album than ppl like to admit
I love it but it’s very very different to this album for being same genre same artist
