OB4CL is a rap classic but it lacks the versatility, sound quality and appeal other albums from the 90s have. It’s a great rap record but other albums are much more than that. Still one of the best pure rap albums of all time

No no no we're not about to discredit ob4cl because its for the culture foh

    What would be your 5

mine would be this and then 36 chambers, liquid swords, midnight marauders, and then either moment of truth or the infamous

That’s a very difficult question damn

I would definitely put Illmatic, Ready to Die and Reasonable Doubt in the top 3 but after that I really don’t know, I love Nas and Hov sophomores (Vol 1 is a personal classic with a curated tracklist), BlackStar and Black on Both Sides, ATCQ first three, The Infamous, Capital Punishment, Moment of Truth, Miseducation... 90s NY hip hop was peak rap man

Used to love Wu Tang 90s albums but I think their sound hasn’t aged that well, I like when I can put hip hop music to people that aren’t fans of the genre and they can enjoy that and that rarely happens with 36 chambers, OB4CL and Liquid Swords (Method Man and Ghostface are two of my favorite rappers tho)

My Top 5 OAT NY albums would probably be Illmatic, RD, Ready To Die, The Blueprint and Supreme Clientele

You can make a good case for this easily. I think this myself often.

reasonable doubt, ready to die, and the infamous are def in mine. the other 2 spots im pretty torn. illmatic? 36 chambers? ob4cl? ironman? hell on earth? life after death?

i listen to life after death more then RTD these days, so maybe id switch those. NY really was god tier at that time

edit - forgot to list liquid swords, which is def in my top 5. so the last spot im pretty undecided.

vol 1 is up there for me too, def not too many people bringing it up

I think it's sick that the Wu-Tang sound was so raw and original and it was able to evolve over time -- probably Ghostface is the best example since he's had the most consistent discog, and even the difference between ironman and supreme clientele is massive.

Even seeing features like Meth's on conway's project this year is great to see, there's traces of them in this wave of underground coke rap that's seeming to get more attention as griselda has gotten more popular

i think supreme clientele 2 is on the way also

Yeah Ghost announced that, they know what that title means, so hopefully they pull through with it.

  • Nov 29, 2020

Legit argument, it’s top 5 OAT for sure

  • Nov 29, 2020

    LMAO at this thread

You say (insert relatively modern album here) is the greatest album of all time, whole thread agrees.

You say an arguably top 5 rap album of all time and one of the most influential albums is the greatest album of all time is the GOAT, people deny vehemently.

Kool G Rap did it first, but Rae took Mafioso rap to a whole new level with this.

inspired Nas for IWW/The Firm, Reasonable Doubt, Ross has modernized mafioso rap for a minute and even everyone's favorite lightskin rapper Drizzy Corleone is influenced by this.
