Kool G Rap did it first, but Rae took Mafioso rap to a whole new level with this.
inspired Nas for IWW/The Firm, Reasonable Doubt, Ross has modernized mafioso rap for a minute and even everyone's favorite lightskin rapper Drizzy Corleone is influenced by this.
not to mention there would certainly be no kanye west or "chipmunk soul" without RZA

People just love to gloss over the East if it's not Biggie or Jay-Z and to a lesser degree Nas and it's sad as hell.
One of the best beats ever made
Served wit a superlative nas verse

kool g raps 4,5,6 is underrated af. some reason the critics didnt give it much praise, but its a pretty hard mafiaso rap album. even his 1998 roots of evil and his 2002 the giancana story is great. dude is slept on in general
and RZA is the goat, influenced too many to name
this s*** is literally a movie

Finally a thread that makes some sense.
Not even a top 5 90s NY albums, still very good tho
Name your top 5 right now
OB4CL is a rap classic but it lacks the versatility, sound quality and appeal other albums from the 90s have. It’s a great rap record but other albums are much more than that. Still one of the best pure rap albums of all time
You sound like you were born in 2002 bro shut your ass up
i think a top 5 is pretty much interchangeable. illmatic might be the only 1 consistently ranked in that. wu-tang solos, biggies 2 classics, reasonable doubt, mobb deeps classics etc. too much to choose from
That‘s why East Coast > West Coast
I don't play OB4CL a lot but I highly respect and recognize its greatness. Not mad at this take at all. Some of the oldest rap fans I know have it as their #1.
Not mad at this. It’s a perfect album. I got a few albums ahead of it just off pure listening pleasure but I’m not mad
as far as pre-reasonable doubt years go, 1995 was goated between this, liquid swords, and the infamous among others
But this exists
But I ain’t mad at OP for that pick
now we all know who the best rapper alive is though.....
This is now a KA thread

Completely flawless albums. Don't know how he does it. My favorite of all time
