I see a lot of albums get dissed because of replay value, without factoring in why an album isn't something you can just press play on. Take for example Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp A Butterfly"
This album is very west coast funk influenced. It's themes are not radio, party, or bumps in the whip type of music. Kendrick lyrically shines a light on subjects worthy of a deeper discussion.
It's the type of music that's weighs on you. You need to get in the proper mindset to reap it's fruits. Some people crave such art, others don't want to put as much into it. I liken it to fixing a meal. Thanksgiving dinner is amazing, but nobody feels like preparing that big ass meal ever week. They rather just cook some ramen because it easier to make and will do the trick.
Thanksgiving isn't great because the process is easy. The beauty lies in it's rareness.
solid a***ogy. I couldn't listen to "u" every day because I'm not always in the mood to confront those emotions
I really wish you didn't use TPAB because the thread is most likely gonna go left.
Replay value is something that varies greatly from person to person. I agree with your Thanksgiving point as well, some albums/songs are things you don't play every day. You might just play it every once in a while which is ok.
tpab has high replay value anyway imo
for free and i (album version) probably the only songs i can’t appreciate outside the album but the rest all easy listens once you grasp the concept and message

Thanks for understanding what I was trying to convey. Some albums are great, but take just as much from the listener as they give.
Alright, Complexion, King Kunta, Momma, i, Hood Politics have infinite replay value
I don't think something not being played constantly on the radio/clubs/social environments has anything to do with a person's personal replay value.
Regardless of where it's played, the point is that it still can be played by you (among others) and whether or not it continues to hold up.
most of tpab bumps in the whip tho
you niggas need to fix your ears
I agree, I'm just playing Devil's advocate
its literally the one thing that decides if something is classic lol
If you cant find the mood to return to a project ever again then how can it possibly be a classic
if u can listen to 1 album every day for years either the album has no emotions or ur emotions are the same for years
I agree, I'm just playing Devil's advocate
people who say these things don't really listen to a lot of music
they just check what's hot on the top 40 or whatever they just go with the trends
basically people who can't think for themselves
Thanks for understanding what I was trying to convey. Some albums are great, but take just as much from the listener as they give.
I think some people itt are willfully misunderstanding what you're trying to say
How’s it a classic if we don’t listen to it
Don’t people say TPAB is not an album you can just listen to anytime, you need to be in a certain mood? And isn’t it still considered a classic?

I can watch Inception all day, but 12 Years a Slave might be too much for me atm. The movie is still a crafted classic
