if u can listen to 1 album every day for years either the album has no emotions or ur emotions are the same for years

Wait what? How does that makes sense? I can listen to an album for years with my emotions being totally different if the music still sounds good

Wow this album is a classic! Can’t wait to never listen to it again!

More like that was an experience. Don't know if I'll be ready to digest that again tomorrow, but it left an imprint.

I can watch Inception all day, but 12 Years a Slave might be too much for me atm. The movie is still a crafted classic

thats a fair comparison but even tough watch movies are designed to be re-visited in times of similar strife. Schindler's List is something that's supposed to be discussed whenever we have heinous atrocities and need an idea for what this does to the victims. TPAB or any similar album may not be designed to be listened to every day, but its supposed to be there when you need it

when I think replayability, I think: "Can the vibe this album puts out be enjoyed again if I listen when Im in a similar mood?" For something like JIK for example, that's probably an album that doesn't do much after multiple listens

Terrible a***ogy. Eating thanksgiving food is the easiest thing ever and it’s also gluttonous.

Your a***ogy conflates production and consumption. Making thanksgiving food is not like listening to music. Listening to music is more like eating the food.

you don’t know how hard it was to create ds2 vs tpab.

What A Time To Be Alive takes like steak and potatoes every time.

TPAB prolly does too, but I don’t like the taste.

replay value doesnt exist, its just a synonym for how much you like an album

Nah can’t co-sign this. How is a “classic” album’s criteria not going to include replay value? That sounds ridiculous.

That just means they haven’t listened to Thriller. They can still recognize that it’s a classic album

OPs argument was an album bring a classic despite lacking replay value. It would be different if someone was arguing against an album being a classic for that reason. How are you supposed to convince me something is of that stature if you’re willing admitting that I probably won’t enjoy it that much. I think the classics argument is generally subjective but to say something is good despite not being able to indulge is silly especially with something as accessible as music

    I love TPAB

  • May 12, 2020

NO. It's actually underrated on this site.

A classic has to mark a time period and/or live on. Period.

Critical acclaim is the overrated stat.

Also replay value is EASILY measured in the streaming era.

  • Lmao what about never playing the album in general

Take for example Kendrick lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly

    Ah okay

It’s definitely NOT an argument against its classic status then. That’s entirely subjective and there are a mound of other merits to include that can define an album classic

    bullshit
most albums are "big" because of singles with millions of streams
and they also force those songs into every f***ing playlist

I never meant to imply that replay value was not a factor. My thoughts on the matter is that it too often used to judge an albums worth by those who disregard it. Albums like TPAB are designed to make you fall back.
