No Timbo’s not a thief, Hip Hop was built on sampling, ever since Kool Herc would play records at parties, but instead of playing the whole records, he would play the instrumental breaks, mixing between two records to create a continuous instrumental. Eventually, it would turn into an artist rapping over said beat.

It was kept underground at the time because they could not sell other people’s intellectual property as their own without their consent.

This happened because people did not think of hip hop as a legitimate art form at the time.

When people dismiss sampling as stealing, it disrespects hip hop as a genre and takes us back to when this artform we all love, was taken as a joke by those not interested in hip hop or alternative black artforms.
