Yeah that phonecall scene is powerful as s***, De Niro showing us he's still got the magic.

had a question was wondering if anyone had the answer. In the scene when frank is about to get on the plane does anyone know why Russ asked for his sunglasses? Was it symbolic in some way? Not sure if I’m just over a***yzing it but it seemed purposeful yet strange

Some theories a few posts above this one bro

I loved the movie but something was just missing in order for me to give it 5/5.

    Rewatching this weekend

I agree. To me it just felt a little unfocused, which meant in the end it felt like wasn't going 100% in every direction it was trying to go. That meant it was jumping around a bit time-wise and focus-wise and the jumps to the framing device which took aaaages to pay of didn't help either. Lot of people loved the ending because finally Scorsese tooo some of the glamorization away (which is true. I definitely needed him to do that for WoWS… Not necessarily this movie tbh going by wether the story demands it). But I just feel like the family angle just didn't feel all that earned.

Also I often dislike Scorsese's CGI. Here this is obviously the de-aging which sometimes felt simply too waxy and sometimes just goofy because you're not gonna be able to de-age them entirely (trucks scene, beat down). And stuff like that roof flag scene has to be composite because it looks like trash.

So I think for me it was a lot of little things and the "missing something" like you said that make me not view this as perfect.

But in the end.. it's still Marty, Pesci, De Niro, Pacino and Keitel doing a crime film. With a supporting cast that knocked it out the park too. That has to be mentioned too!

Fully agree about wondering what the focus is. I kept looking for what the main focal point would be. In the end it was a retelling of Sheeran‘s career in crime that peaked with the murder of Hoffa I guess.

The ending is powerful to me because it really takes away all the glamour. In the end they all die as old men, Sheeran alone in a care home.

Brilliant cast, flawfless acting for sure

I really can't take those type of narratives seriously (Logan, Irishman and Endgame )
Where they make a sad ending essentially because the actors are either past their prime or done with this type of role (Logan and Endgame).

Give me this story when those actors were in their prime and I'll buy it, but this fake deep s*** ain't gotta cut it here.

Could see them killing off Bond in the next movie since Craig is pretty much done with the role.

Is this a continuation of one of Scorsese’s previous movies?

What your greatest movie of all time ? I'd take PF over this anytime of the day.

The CGI was subjectively bad unless you are blind, We literally have seen how those actors looked at a younger age and it's nothing like what was presented in this movie.

Well the intention wasn’t to make them look like the young versions of themselves. It was to make them look like younger versions of their current selves. The technology just really isn’t there to do the former and have it still look realistic.

    “My union” was boomer mentality?

Yes... The guy is was a stubborn ass capitalist. It had nothing to do with a union, he was too prideful even when faced with murder. Dude couldnt just let something go.

I think what made the cgi seem worse was the blue contact deniro wore, its also why the cgi only looked bad with him imo

This movie is way more deserving of a 3+ hour runtime than Wolf of Wall Street was.

You could look at it this way if you consider his past movies (Goodfellas and Casino).
