Any idea what that signifies? I know Hoffa slept with the door half open but is that it?
"Leave the door open" in that context is quite often like, someone wants to be able to hear other people nearby/feel connected to others.
So the way I read it was that Sheeran's greatest regret/fear at that time was that there was no one left in the world that gave a damn about him - one daughter won't see him full stop, the other kids are distant, everyone else is dead.
He's the last man standing and it was all for nothing - man just wants to feel like he's not alone in his final days.
EDIT: also yeah, callback to the hotel room scene where Hoffa wanted the door left open a crack, and we have that shot of Frank staring at it, like it's sinking in.

Oh wow I never thought of it like that, thanks! Very interesting and true to Frank’s final 30 minutes in the movie.

plus in reality Frank died in '03 of cancer in the old folks home so within the film that's probably the room he'd die in not too long after.

Love the scene where Frank shoots the Nazi soldiers and then talks about how he doesn't understand why they would keep digging. Frank ends up being just like them. He digs himself deeper and deeper into his own loneliness by following his orders. Ends up alienating or killing any connections he has to family or friends, essentially burying himself.

Why he look so sad :(
Just watched GoodFellas for the first time last night. F***ing classic. Joe Pesci delivered an amazing performance. To those who’ve seen both Is this better?

Even if it is better, people won’t just say it yet - that’s one of the GOATs we talking bout here
Though if you haven’t seen Casino yet make sure you give it a watch when you can, it’s another Scorsese / De Niro / Pesci classic

Yeah, even if you think Irishman is the most perfect, a film can get it would still be too early comparing it to a film 30 years to its name imo
Holy S***
This may be in my top 5 all time faves
It felt like watching the Goodfellas the first Time.
I thought it was Marty at his finest in a while. 3.5 hours flew by tbh. I’ll need to watch it a couple more times but this is definitely top 3 Scorcese.
I've watched it last friday and it's great. I think everybody who liked Casino & Goodfellas will like this one aswell. Last arc could've been a bit shorter tho.

I'd say the Irishman

Both are similar yet very different.
The first hour literally feels like goodfellas 2 with the fast cuts and narration. Where it differs is that Goodfellas shows the glamour of that world, The Irishman is about mortality and coming to grips within that world. Both are classics, both are top 5 Scorsese.
