They should switch to the popular vote but that's not happening because Republicans wouldn't win another election
Going full popular vote would decimate the Republican Party and I am here for that.
It would definitely force them to evolve and stop relying on cheap tricks to get elected
popular vote would make republicans stop courting racists and switch to a christian values / reduced government party that targets conservative minorities just as much as conservative white people
just remember the situation and time period America was in when the EC was created and then ask yourself if its still relevant
When southern states wanted as much voting power as the north without letting their black population vote
No. The electoral system is actually a pretty decent system to counter hive mind and not making it the united states of California, New York, Texas & the rest.
I would also advocate for mandatory voting also but that will never happen in USA
It’s not a good idea because people will just randomly vote and they will not know much about the policies of the people they vote for. To be honest I think there should be a test before you vote asking to name just one or maybe two policies of the candidate you’re voting for. That would stop image voting and make politics more about policies.

Idk man, I can’t imagine another candidate being hated as much as Trump was, and Trump just got the second most votes of any candidate ever. Obviously that’s behind Joe, but that suggests there are a lot of conservatives out there. If Trump was likable, Joe probably wouldn’t have gotten as much turnout as he did. A likable conservative could possibly win the popular vote.
Just curious which president was that? Reagan?
Bush won the popular vote in 2024. Bush Sr won the popular vote in 88, Reagan won in both 80 and 84. I’m guessing they aren’t counting 88 because that was technically 32 years and a week ago lol

This is only correct if you assume voters in these states are a monolith, and that voters in large states have some unifying interest in political issues, which is clearly not the case. The 5 largest states are 2 safe blue states, 2 red/lean red states and a swing state
Either way, it's still an improvement on being the United States of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, and Wisconsin where we currently are
Whatever system replaces the EC still needs to allow for smaller states to vote for their interests and not have every national election be controlled by a few large population centers.
Proportional vote by state seems like a good compromise
Rewards trying to win in every state
my dad reckons over 85s shouldnt vote
One of my coworkers truly believed that there should be an IQ requirement to vote. This coworker is dumb as s***, mind you.

Rt
Centrist Party vs Progressive Party
Centrism wins 81-19%
It's more important that we have ranked choice voting imo.

the "centrist" party would still be right wing lmao
In comparsion to the progressive party maybe, but progressive is just a buzzword for policy created by ignorant people that will never actually happen
So how progress-ive are they really
if we kept electoral college but had ranked choice republicans would win senate without runoff and trump would win
Oh I'm thinking if we had ranked choice we never would have got into this situation lol. Like if it was a thing since 2000. We'd be in a much different spot.
