I don't feel strongly either way, however; I would like for a song with X sound and mood to be placed in a certain order next to a song with Y sound and mood...but it goes no further than that

Listening to a song in an album doesn't require you to fully understand and enjoy the next song. For example; I would have to watch Thanos ripping the Mind Stone from Vision's head and everything before then to understand the gravity of Thanos snapping his fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet after Thor impales him - I would not need to listen to Jesus Walks in order to fully understand and enjoy Never Let Me Down as its own song.
