Workout is such a terrible song mate who was with you in the studio when you were making that they need to be held responsible as well

The label pushed him to do that
Y'all niggas don't even know how s*** went down and tryna form a opinion
Doesn’t take away from my point at all though why you so upset
Jesus mate
Yup
In The Morning
Workout
Can't Get Enough
Mr. Nice Watch
Who Dat
The label was behind those
I used to listen to Cole so much. I looked up songs on Playlist.com and downloaded them all on my itouch. Pre-Sideline story Cole was pretty great

In the morning is classic track
Thank Me Later was trash too nigga add that to OP. Nigga had Alicia, Jeezy, TIP, Swizz, Jay z, Nicki, Timberland, The Dream And Lil Wayne and still dropped some mid.

Not really, at least TML had number of enjoyable songs, SS was just mediocre and boring all around it's sad.

In The Morning was already recorded back in 2007, I believe it was Cole himself who decided to add Drake and that song was already on FNL so idk if the label had anything to do with it. I could agree with the rest though

Both were a let down to me. Big KRIT, Drake, J Cole, Etc all failed to live up to the expectations of their debut.

True, at least Drake and Big Krit rebounded later on but Cole never put out an album to the level of his early work. LFTU was a letdown too, people were hyped and the album was pushed back until we got mid instead. Had the debut been good, he would've seen more success overall

I'm talking about adding it on the debut album
The label wanted that
J. Cole was supposed to kick off his career with some classic F&L type of s***, when we found out FNL was supposed to be his debut. It sucks they scrapped most of the OG project and instead look at wtf we got, like we got s***ty songs like Workout and Mr. Nice Watch
Can't believe HOV did him dirty, s*** even the fire single Who Dat ended up getting scrapped from the album. Can't believe because of him we ended up with a mediocre, solid project. I even tried listening to the album last night and found myself skipping a lot of the songs. I'm glad Cole improved over the years since then (Album-wise) but damn what it could've been.
Op how hov did dirty on him? I thought he just delayed the album one week later to put his verse on

Rise and Shine and Nobody's Perfect better than anything on TML lol
Well the song he had with Jeezy and Miss Me the only 2 that come close

Worst drake album tbh
Jay renegade is classic tho

Big Sean too considering all the support and features he had. Kendrick really the only one who had a strong debut, whether you think its S80 or GKMC

What I meant was implying the label putting heavy pressure on him, not only being Jay-Z behind it. Even in this article he implied the label had a hand in the album: hiphopdx.com/news/id.17003/title.j-cole-explains-why-cole-world-the-sideline-story-was-delayed
”It’s just a matter of expectations. When you have the expectations of a whole label and how they look at you and perceive you and what they want your success level to be, then you’re going to have a lot of opinions on singles or whatever.”

Tbh that's crazy to think lmao

Kendrick and Meek.
Wale, Big Sean, Drake, J Cole, Big KRIT, Mac Miller. Damn near everyone on Control.
For me Cole is one of the biggest let downs in rap in recent times. His albums generally are still okay with FHD being his only real outstanding album but i think he can do way more and way better than he is. He was my favorite rapper up until he lost me with 4yeo and the first half of KOD. His inconsistency is annoying
