    Nah it was good. It just wasn’t as exciting cause Drizzy was new back then. Now it’s like the opposite for me.

    Part of why gkmc was such a big deal was because it was the first time a major rapper even had a good debut in years. All of the dope rappers to come out in the late 2000s and early 10s came up with mixtapes and then the labels ruined all their debuts

    Man f*** those labels. They did Kendrick a huge favor by not interfering with his debut (mostly because he wasn’t anticipated to be a crossover star like Drake and Cole) and we got a 10/10 classic cause of it

    Yeah and I think we can also thank Top and Dre for putting Kendrick in the best position for gkmc and also Kendrick proved that he was one of the best at toeing the line between making accessible music and still being great. He still had to compromise a little (he wanted to make TPAB type album for his debut) but he executed it way more naturally than any of his peers were able to
