That was genuinely unnerving especially toward the end
Definitely wouldn’t even watch it again tho but that was an experience
Say what you want about this film, but the s*** made me feel genuine dread. Like I wanted this movie to end because I felt so dreadful about what would happen next
I think 15-20 mins could’ve been shaved off this film but overall it was mad effective in what it set out to do
I can’t call it the overall best horror film I’ve seen this year, but it is certainly the scariest. I haven’t plugged my ears and covered my eyes in a theater since i was a child. I really gotta give it to this film. It’s f***ing different
This s*** just sitting on my mind lmao

Same here dude, moments from it keep sticking with me, like I'll think about them in the middle of the day and just feel bad lol
(Spoilers, it's really best to go into this movie blind) but the line 'I can do anything' really affected me, it gets more disturbing the more you think about it
Glad it did something for you man, it's really something different

That line immediately made me lose all hope for the poor kid. I realized the kid is just a play thing in this beings sandbox. Really creepy delivery there

If I was a kid and I heard that, Jesus Christ, the kid's acting was so authentic too, when he says to the phone 'You did that', it really hits that he's too young to fully comprehend what's going on and how bad it really is

the scene where the entity tells the kid to put a knife in his eye f\*\*\*ed me up. That s\*\*\* caught me way off guard. The screams. Then later on with that loop of the blood splattering. Man.
Ngl I felt trapped in there with them. This film had a weird claustrophobic energy which I think totally works

Big feeling of claustrophobia throughout
Lazy f***ing directing. Give me $15k I'm make you a better movie. I'll make you the same movie, better! This is a pretty good 20 minute short film stuffed with an unforgivable amount of filler. Gave it my undivided attention and it gave me bullshit tropes and an overbearing style that pushed any kind of "acting" to the bare margins
And it's fake VHS
I posted this before I knew he literally had a 15 minute short film identical to this that he then padded with shots of a ceiling, the floor, or just literal nothing
I fuuuuuuuuucking hated this movie and the director's a hack. He's set for life though, as long as zoomers pretend to be scared by tube tv's he can make creepypasta videos on a shoestring budget and reap huge returns
this brought me back to my childhood trauma in a brutal way, it shook me to my core B**** a toy phone frowned at the camera what the f*** are you talking about

Your review of this makes me wanna see this so bad i’m gonna be thinking of a frowning toy phone the whole time now lmOoooooooo

You might as well check it out man its about to open even wider in theaters after making 100x it's budget, or you can torrent a copy absolutely anywhere. My bad on giving away one of the three "scares" in this movie though, I'll leave the other two unspoiled

This one of those films that either does it for you or does nothing for you. The divide is interesting to see
That said, I don’t scare easily when it comes to film, and this s*** had me genuinely terrified by the end of it. I think it comes down to allowing yourself to be immersed by what it’s setting out to do
I’ve always been into this type of s*** tho. The a***og s*** is mad unnerving when done well and I think this film executes

My advice to you is to see it alone and really allow yourself to get sucked into the film.
I don’t know how easily immersed you are but that makes the difference
Also don’t expect an entertaining film. It’s no crowd pleaser by any means, it’s just a f***ing experience

Sounds like a Apichatpong experience where it’s extremely meditative (sometimes boring) but fills your head for weeks afterwards.
Definitely watching this at a theatre

Yeah it's a no in-between type of movie, for sure
And part of what frustrates me about it is that I feel like I'm the prime target to enjoy this - I like slow cinema, prefer sustaining a creepy mood over gore, big fan of films with a distinct texture*, and claustrophobia in movies is hugely cathartic to me. I even watched it in the dead of night at my parents house alone, the same style of upper-middle class three story home as the movie, with no prior knowledge of the movie.
And, to throw the "childhood trauma" jab back at myself and be too candid for my own good online, I grew up with audible hallucinations from kindergarten until like 4th-5th grade that I thought was satan telling me to kill myself in my basement! I could not have been more primed to be like "😨 oh f***!" and yet it left me completely cold.
It felt like it was insulting my intelligence, like why are there fake hairs in the digital film grain if this is attempting to look like VHS-C tape? That's a minor quibble for sure, but then they just kept mounting in my mind. Why shoehorn such cheap, embarassing jump scares like the phone making a 😡 face, the sister having no mouth# when you're trying to build atmosphere? And honestly: why aren't the kids allowed to emote? I'm not saying they have to be screaming in fear the whole time !#though after this kid puts his f\*\*\*ing eye out with a knife while trapped in a coma nightmare, his 911 call sounds like he's straight chilling but can't I be allowed to see their faces sometimes? They're my surrogate as the audience! It just felt irredeemably padded and like the guy had no clue how to direct child actors
I know I'm in the outgroup here because its a legitimate smash hit, but goddamn did I want that time back. For this to be nearly two hours felt insane to me
*the remaster of Inland Empire from last year really stands out to me in this regard and if you liked this you'll really f*** with it if you haven't seen it already
Dare I say the Blair witch of this generation?
That we can agree on looking back I absolutely think the canon will be Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity and this
Yeah it's a no in-between type of movie, for sure

These are all valid points I can’t fault you for except for the not showing kids faces. I think it added to the nightmarish vibe of the film. It also made it more effective when they revealed that kaylee’s facial features got removed. that s*** just hit harder since we couldn’t see them the entire time
Part of me found the jump scares a BIT cheap because of the assault on my ears alone. I hate that s*** since I’m sensitive to loud noises. On the other hand I think they were done well especially in the parents room
the biggest thing though, is how unsafe those jump scares made me feel throughout the film.
I went in thinking this would have no jump scares and then on top of all that that creepy tension built through the film, those scares put me on guard. S*** made me twice as anxious as I already was. Each scene had me dreadful as f***. Idk it just worked for me

spoil the other two i’m never gonna watch this
