Found that someone posted the first part of the death on YouTube. But just so you know, it somehow, SOMEHOW, gets even worse. It’s the scene that apparently had people actually having health problems because of it. Art has just started on her by the time that clip ends. And all this is happening to probably the nicest character in the movie

But it’s so over the top brutal and mean spirited it becomes absurdly dark comedy lol

I’m scared of horror but this highkey scary movie levels of hilarious

  • Oct 24, 2022

I like gore movies and I find physical violence pretty damn scary, but there’s a limit sometimes where it disconnects and becomes absurd. I just watched Repulsion (1965) and I think it’s honestly the scariest film I’ve ever watched and it’s all because of the implications. The way violence is expected but rarely ever really shown. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre does this effectively in a different way too. I actually really like Terrifier and I find it unsettling due to its low budget borderline snuff film quality, but it’s not really the violence in it that makes me feel that way. Movies like Hostel and Martyrs really make the violence scary. The former for just how uncomfortable watching people enjoy perpetrating it is even in subtle ways like a heel slice—and the latter for how overwhelming transcendent it’s framed as being. I can’t imagine Terrifier 2 really pulling off either.

    Now I’m sold on this

Do I need to watch the 1st one?

nah the first one literally doesn’t have a story. It’s more of a proof of concept for Art. only thing you need to watch it for is the mid credits scene

Saw this last night and it's miles better than the first one. Honestly thought the first one was pretty bad outside of the effects, but this one was aa big jump in quality. Only thing was my theater was legit packed with annoying ass teenagers talking through literally the entire movie and using their phones on f***ing max brightness. I was like they obviously weren't checking ID's for this lol

They don’t have to check ID’s technically for this movie, it was released unrated. It’s totally up to the theater and do you think they want to lose all that money?!

This is sick this isn't even art or cinema this s*** is like borderline snuff

I'm not sure why anyone would want to expose themselves to these sort of images but if you do you're sick

bro you literally sound like a suburban mom rn lol. it’s just about the over the top silliness of it and the appreciation of the AMAZING practical effects involved in this

  • Oct 25, 2022

Practical effects are great and all speaking from art dept. experience but idk man, this is on some salo/Serbian film/human centipede s***. I like impactful gore. Green room/raid 2/Mandy kinda s***. This just excessive.

And there's too much "b-movie" not so great compositing over the great practical effects to really make it not what it is, schlock. This is like a really long YouTube viral short. Which is definitely the point but still, it's not quite kino

I think OP said the void felt cheaper than this, I gotta disagree. This is like Neil breen/best of the worst type shooting quality right here. The void overcame it's budget and then some

Nah I specifically said The Void has stretched its budget as much as this, where when you watch the two you can’t tell at all that they were made for less than $1 million.

The Void is one of my favorite horror movies of the past decade and Astron-6 did wonders with the budget. Same for their most recent movie Psycho Goreman, that movie is one of the biggest love letters to practical effects. I loved it’s intentionally cheap Power Rangers look at times

bro I couldn’t believe I was watching that when I was at the theater how the f*** did they get an R rating

They didn’t get an R rating at all lmao they just straight up released it unrated. The MPAA would’ve butchered this movie. That’s what’s so great about this movie, it’s 100% the director’s vision, 138 minutes without any studio meddling, and it came out in 700+ theaters. Insane accomplishment for indie filmmakers

  • Oct 25, 2022
    SIGH

    This is a “mainstream” movie?

Hell yeah. It’s a phenomenon rn. It already made $4 million on a $250k budget in 700+ theaters so far (most screenings are always sold out). I think of it as basically a haunted house people can go to for cheap, if you get what I mean. It has commercial appeal and outstanding word of mouth

Definitely go see it in a theater. I’m gonna try sometime in the next few days just because I enjoyed the movie so much and I hear it’s like one of the best theater experiences you can have

First one doesn’t really have a story at all, it’s a proof of concept (the director has confirmed this). It’s just to show off Art the Clown and what he can do. Second one is entirely story based, and a damn good story at that. The director listened to the criticism of the first film and improved in literally every way

The only thing you need to know about the first movie to understand the sequel is the opening scene and the closing scene. Those two are technically scenes from Terrifier 2 though

Yep. Legendary move. I know Damien Leone wants to keep it independent but holy s*** I can only imagine the amount of money being offered to him right now from different major studios. They were already hounding him for the rights to Art the Clown after the first movie, but the success of this sequel has to have sent the value of this franchise through the roof

gotcha so would u recommend just going completely blind to the second one before seeing the first?

I can always check out the first one after

Yeah, it may actually be even better if you watch the sequel first since the original is essentially one long flashback since the movie is framed between scenes from the sequel.

Only place you might get lost in the sequel is the very very beginning. Art comes back to life after he shot himself in the head at the end of the first one (that’s not a spoiler btw). Opening scene of this is the final scene from the original
