    damn i see

since way back & teenage fever also not good to you?

    do you like r&b?

I don’t mind it at all but to me it’s the weakest type of Drake song (if we categorize them all into pop song, r&b song, rappity rap song, regular rap song). I like the other 3 a lot better

And I find his r&b in general has just gotten worse over the years. I loved his r&b on SFG, it was good on TC, at his best during IYRTITL era (Jungle and Heat Of The Moment are two of his best R&B tracks oat imo) but since then it’s been bad to me. Didn’t like the Views R&B tracks other than KTFC, hated most of the More Life R&B tracks, didn’t like the majority of Scorpion R&B tracks. Since 2015 I’d say Signs is probably the only R&B song I’d rank as one of his absolute bests and that’s somewhat pop-ish. Maybe Peak as well

    that's fair i respect that

even tho i disagree heavily since i'm not a huge fan of early drake, especially in the r&b department

    Differing opinions

It’s why IYRTITL his best album imo. Gave us only 1 true R&B track but made sure it was absolutely one of his best. I think Jungle universally accepted as one of his best R&B tracks

Views is the most a drake verse has ever underwhelmed me in history

It’s not a terrible verse but that was one of the best beats he’s had in his career and he didn’t live up to it at all

damn I think he actually demolished that beat, not his best pen game but got some amazing lines like "I got a pure soul I don't do the hate, you don't worry bout fitting in when you custom made" and ending the album with saying "if I was you I wouldn't like me either" was legendary

You’re right he kept it to a minimal mostly but when he included it was some of his best

Jungle arguably his best R&B track to me, WNI (obviously not him) is hard, Own It is great if you skip the first minute lol

And tbh I have a different opinion of those More Life and Scorpion tracks. Peak is top tier, Jaded and Finesse are solid, Nothings Into Something’s and Since Way Back are terrible to me. Teenage Fever is bad to me as well

I much prefer he only includes 1-2 r&b tracks on his album by just choosing his absolute best one he made that era, release the rest as loosies if he wants. But 4-5 R&B tracks on a drake album is just too much and I’m bound to not enjoy at least half

I'm not mad at Jungle being his best R&B track, s*** is incredible. Wild that it came from a mostly trap-centric tape.

Agree to disagree on the More Life tracks. Those are some of my favorite joints on there.

I'm not one of these people that needs more than 2 or 3 tracks of any style, I like variety. That's what drops Take Care for me a bit, just a few too many ballads on there. Especially if he going for the hallowed 13-15 track range for the next album, we could get 2-3 of each genre he's gone with.

2 pop songs, 4 rap joints, 3 r&b songs, 2 trap songs, 3 of the melodic rap songs, 2 dancehall tracks. This would be hard

Again it’s not bad to me but I was expecting way better seeing as it’s the outro and that beat was absolute insanity

So many lame lines from “it’s like the front of the plane n—a it’s all business but I haven’t flown with y’all boys in a minute” to “and like it’s going in the trunk I put it all behind us” to “I’m a staple in the game but my paper’s together” to “it’s far fetched like I threw that s*** a hunnid metres, I keep it a hunnid like I’m running a fever”

Only really great lines that stick out to me is the pure soul line you posted and “they rather run up on me than towards they goals”

    I tend to disagree

I know he has a ton of demographics that listen to him for different types of songs so he’s more likely to drop an album with a few songs of each type

But I much prefer he chooses one type that dominates the album and gives 1 song of a couple other types

Like if he’s dropping a 14 song album, give me 10 tracks that are predominantly rap, throw 1-2 R&B tracks and 1-2 pop songs. Makes it a lot more cohesive

But again I doubt he does this bc it’ll alienate the drake fans that don’t really love his rapping and listen to him predominantly for his r&b or for his pop songs

I mean yeah, that's what I want too. I'm a bigger fan of rap Drake.

But he probably won't ever do one genre more than the others. If he did. he'd drop two projects in back to back weeks I bet

  • May 22, 2020

Also I’ll never forgive drake for not ending Views by saying Views From The 6 like he ended Take Care and Nothing Was The Same

Was such a goat running theme

I agree with you on some lazy lines, the whole album got a bunch of them and for me it's the album's biggest mistake, just to mention a few his comparison to the lady / rap game to "Chrysler one car that looked just like the Bentley" is the worse one 😂😂 "Green like Earth Day" "Toying with it like Happy Meal" "Chaining Tatum" just to mention a few

Its a tough position to be in

If he dedicates an album to one of his genres the sales will suffer heavily, but if he keeps making albums with a mix of a ton of genres they will never ever get the critical acclaim

Scorpion he tried to appease that by choosing mainly 2 genres and separating them but there was no way he was gonna release them as separate releases bc keeping them together means double the sales numbers, but then it also meant that critics would grade it as 1 project which meant the rap fans would criticize the r&b side and the r&b fans would criticize the rap side which pans the album

Seems like he’s aware too, like he said “a classic is just ten of these” or whatever, but he just chooses to prefer the popularity over the acclaim

Scorpion really lacked one of his biggest abilities, mixing Rap and R&B, like he effortlessly did on NWTS and Take Care

Yup this really hurt the album to me

1-2 corny drake lines is cool it’s part of his thing but this album was riddled with them and some were to the absolute extreme (chaining tatum and why you wanna fight with me at cheesecake you know I love to go there)

  • I wouldn’t call any songs trash

I can listen to the whole thing thru

But there are times where I skip songs cause it’s just not my vibe at the moment.

hahahaha the Cheesecake line was so random it was iconic, so I was cool with that one, but yeah all around the album random f***ing wack lines just kept appearing out of nowhere

Yeah, my favorite tracks of his are the ones where he raps with melody. I don't even think that's gone out of style either, Time Flies is like that a little bit but I would like more of that

also I keep saying this but I got a strong feeling that this will be incredible, he's really perfecting that smooth rap flow, like on Time Flies, Pain and Not Around
