Well for example, at the time of his writing it, opium was not associated with d*** addiction, but as a pain reliver. He thought religion was a way for people to lower their immediate suffering, but he also saw how it could be harmful to revolutionary goals because it could push people away from class consciousness.

as for socialism disliking religion, there are religion socialists, and for example in cuba there are religious groups of people who i believe are indigenous to the island (could be wrong on the latter part but i know there are religions)

There are certain aspects of socialism that people attached to Christianity at one point (in russia at one point for example, I don't know the state of how that mixes together these days over there),

You can disagree with certain statements of a writer but still admit they seemed to be fairly right about A, B, or C...

And even at that, all the people that came after Marx adapted his points as a starting point to their own interpretation, there are some people that connect religion to their own personal compassion and service to others which can overlap with a desire toward socialism and people getting their fair share to live in much less misery

I don't really label myself either because to call myself anything I'd want to be much more well-read.

I'm open to a lot of ideas, and I think people who are anti-socialist are often kinda boxed in and not really set free to think on their own a lot of times.

This is why a lot of socialist and associated beliefs despise the more center left because they may agree with some socialist leaning principles but be too afraid to acknowledge it, and it's like: we don't have much time to waste lol we're all mortal

@BadKarma It takes a little while to adjust and connect socialism to your actual reality when you're living in a hyper-capitalist, anti-human-well-being system, and that's where I'm at.
