Man I hate the internet, IG is just for advertising.
When was the last time you made a genuine friendship online?

People get clowned for even trying stuff these days, and the most bold people are those with no creative vision.

Influences pretty much bought their status, with this mix of pretty privilege and having expensive things, it's like homie said in his book The Society of The Spectacle

“The spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated by images.”

I'm so bored with mixed with this anxiety of every present need to try and seem successful, we all stoped keeping up with the jones and keeping up with the Kardashians.

Group chats have become glorified "engagement pods"

You can't even have a meaningful conversation because most social media platforms don't carter to any type of meaningful discussion.

“The spectacle is the nightmare of imprisoned modern society which ultimately expresses nothing more than its desire to sleep. The spectacle is the guardian of sleep.”

Everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame but what do they really do to deserve even 2 minutes

The way I look at it, social media isn't for making friendships it's for keeping in touch with the ones you already have. I have literally never made a friend through IG but I've kept in contact with people I haven't seen in months/years through it.

I deleted my s*** because 90% of following/followers were from high school and 10% college and I don’t care about 98% of all of them

    It’s all about clout now

Would as many white people care about racial equality and social justice if likes and favorites weren’t involved? Do they care or do they just want attention and validation?

People seeking clout off the suffering of others imagine that

my reasoning is, if a follow is the only thread keeping me connected to this person why bother anyway lmao

  • Title of this thread just taught me more about reality than the past 80 hours of cnn I just watched op give me a subscribe button I am begging you bro

Ive been dubious about making friends online just off the anonymity of the internet alone.

I grew up on the internet, and thankfully had the wherewithal to not post info bout myself all these years. So that skepticism kinda put a wall between me and making meaningful relations online

Yeah I don’t feel any more connected to someone just cuz I still follow them on ig. Im only just passively keeping up w their “life” w no real engagement w them so it just feels so lame

If you think about it, social media has actually made life harder. More expectations, perfectionism is now a common issue, depression and anxiety as well as anti-depressant rates increasing more yearly than ever before, and yet like you said, it's so common that more people now feel isolated than ever before.

    You just need to remember:

    1. The product is free, so YOU are the product, specifically your data, your location, your phone data (no, it's not just TikTok stealing your stuff)

    2. In order to make as much money off of you as possible, you have to use it as much as possible (likes, followers giving you a dopamine rush) and have a fear of missing out. The entire ecosystem is designed to make you addicted, anxious, depressed.

    3. Every picture of a beautiful person you see is edited and filtered.

    4. Timelines are highlight reels and do not represent reality

    5. Vast majority of social media accounts are bots, either by states or companies (yes, especially the USA - it's not just Russia). In fact, the biggest state actor on the Internet is the USA, and the biggest social media sites we use are all based in the US and co-operate with US authorities to manipulate, monitor and deceive.

Facts. I really enjoyed 90s movies like Reality bites or Empire records cause humans just related more with each other back then. It was like all we had was each other

Why don't we have a popular social media app that encourages positivity and acceptance? If an app like that gets popular, it can really save millions of lives.

Because most people aren’t positive or accepting

Absolutely, no doubt about that, but it doesn't even feel like there's a balance sometimes
