Yep. Needs to be regulated. I don't get why some don't understand the consequences of how bad this s*** is for us.

Another issue I see popping up in the future with Millennials and Gen Z'ers who were raised on these platforms is: ALL of the embarrassing stuff they posted on these platforms as kids is NEVER going to be gone. People are going to be using these videos/images or WHATEVER they posted to blackmail and ruin lives/futures.

I was always told "do not post things that will incriminate yourself on social media" and I listened to that.

SM by design preys on every single psychological mechanism in a human brain to maximize time spent looking at the screen. Im sure its fine.

Honestly even forums and image boards aren’t free from faults, they can also be very toxic

social media isn't inherently bad. its really our fault its gotten to this point.

i would say we're currently at a point where it does more harm than good tho

it’s a mistake in the sense that the companies are just allowed to utilize and sell our data without us getting any compensation for it, outside of just using their service (which is the deal we agree to when signing up)

additionally it can do really bad things to peoples mental health, especially children

but it separates actual personalities. you dont got b****es and dude bros being woke and fake af. I've had more REAL convos here than I had with irl ppl on Insta.

Good thing is that we are all aliases and are hiding behind usernames. Which is WHAT social media should be.

Personally I made the mistake of registering an account with my first name and last initial but I think that's still somewhat protective of my IRL identity.

spend less time online and more time with friends and family irl
foster connections with people in your neighborhood
go on more walks and spend time in parks
build your local community in any way you can

This is why I don’t get this site being anti social media while at the same time messing with this site lol. This is way more toxic than Twitter and all that other stuff. I’m starting to think people like the idea of being anonymous and being able to say what they want without having to face real accountability since they’re anonymous.

It does way more harm than good. It’s just a tool to control opinion and sell s*** at this point. It doesn’t connect people, it constantly replicates a bunch of simulacrum: a copy of a copy of a copy… it’s basically a set of codes to reinforce social status.

I mean technically you can still be anonymous on social media apps, in fact i see more people doing this now, but generally people want to represent themselves on social media sites
