Basically before they inject you with the thing that kills you, they inject you with something that paralyses you

(iirc) It’s meant to be so they don’t feel pain, but it’s been proven many times that although they’re paralysed a lot of people still feel everything and are unable to move or even scream out for pain

The main reason for the paralysis injection is just so the people watching don’t see how much pain the people go through while their body is slowly shutting down

No matter the method the death penalty is inhumane, especially considering how many people are wrongfully convicted for such.
