u my nigga fr bro im glad ur in this thread
im brushing up on my deleuze and guttari b4 i get into the thirst for annihilation
ive really been inspired in my creative process to start watching stuff that challenges me, so im tryna apply that to philosophy
but its hard tho when ur black and ur like "why would i ever read some s*** that wants to deny my humanity"
i guess what im saying is, do u think he's worth reading, knowing that he eventually gets very alt righty
i want to read D&G sometime, probably anti-oedipus
I also think it’s important to read Nick Land and grasp the nonsense he’s promoting because his brand of fascism is really the brand of choice for a lot of Silicon Valley tech bros. Who as you know have a lot of influence and money in all the right places. I think he’s thought is going to become increasingly influential and will serve as a road map for modern reactionary movements. It’s a reason Steve Bannon loves s*** like Land and Mencius Moldbug.
Think we gotta understand this stuff if we want to combat it in the coming years
From what I understand from secondary sources, Nick Land is basically a post-humanistic techno-supremacist, which culminated into nRx
He basically wants an advanced “race” of cyborg supermen to rule over people, and he really hates democracy

More or less yes

Reading full d&g texts is a waste of time trust me. Unless you’re really into highly specific topics regarding debates within psychoanalysis and a lot of esoteric s*** and obscure literary references
Just read key excerpts from them imo
@DontAtMe BTW thoughts on Badiou?
I’m not a Maoist myself but I’ve heard he’s very old-school

His early works are pretty decent. I like his book on Hegel. Beyond like 2 or 3 books though am not much of a fan. I don’t think he actually understands that what Maoism is and just calls himself one because he liked a couple things about the GPCR
silicon valley tech bros really see this and are like WOW BRO THIS IS SO DEEP AND MEANINGFUL AND DEFINITELY NOT SOME GUY WHO JUST READ DELUEZE AND THEN DID A METH BENDER
had to dig to find the above screenshot because i will die on the hill that nick land is a nonsensical meth addled psycho who all of his writing is utter nonsense no one who says they like him actually reads and instead they just say they do
Yep I have a hard copy of this actually. It’s really great Altho there are times poor translation does weaken some of his arguments, and I think at times he kinda attacks a bit too surface level understanding of some of the authors he’s criticizing. Overall tho I highly recommend it
Would this be a good introduction to postmodernism overall or would it be better to have background reading?

i think it’s just kinda funny tbh
i kinda respect his work ethic, he would just get high out of his mind off amphetamines in the middle of warehouse raves ranting about random philosophy s***

i read post modernism today and have no grasp on post modernism and it’s not a good introduction and it’s not trying to be it’s a critique of post modernism

I don’t think it’s like required, and I think anyone saying you need to is tripping (if that were the case, why stop at Hegel? We’d have to read Kant etc to really “get” Marx if we hold that position)
That being said I personally find Hegel to be really useful if you want to develop a deeper understanding of dialectics and marxist philosophy. It’s my opinion that the importance of dialectics is severely underrated and most Marxists have a pretty s*** grasp on them. So I recommend it if you really want to develop your knowledge of the topic fully
And I’m not saying you need to read Hegel to understand dialectics either, but I do think that reading him can further enrich your understanding of them if you have the energy and interest to do so
I’d start with secondary resources about Hegel first tho, I can post a couple when I’m off this flight
