I don’t think it’s like required, and I think anyone saying you need to is tripping (if that were the case, why stop at Hegel? We’d have to read Kant etc to really “get” Marx if we hold that position)
That being said I personally find Hegel to be really useful if you want to develop a deeper understanding of dialectics and marxist philosophy. It’s my opinion that the importance of dialectics is severely underrated and most Marxists have a pretty s*** grasp on them. So I recommend it if you really want to develop your knowledge of the topic fully
And I’m not saying you need to read Hegel to understand dialectics either, but I do think that reading him can further enrich your understanding of them if you have the energy and interest to do so
I’d start with secondary resources about Hegel first tho, I can post a couple when I’m off this flight
hey when u can can u share where to start with hegel
as i was reading land realized i'd do a better service to myself by understanding hegel and kant and revisiting marx

Yessir getting to my hotel rn and gonna be busy for a bit so if I don’t remember tag me this evening and I got you
land has interesting takes in the earlier part of his career but hes too fash for me now. idk if its too basic but i feel like mark fisher is a chiller more thoughtful version of land and has a great interview with burial, so i just go to him when i want to imagine the future
Nick Land is really appealing to guys like me who just love reading obscure esoteric s*** from guys who draw from a lot of different subjects, but I never felt like my life was getting anywhere when I read his work. Despite their portrayal as depressing and pessimistic, I found Deleuze and Baudrillard incredibly helpful in understanding modern conditions, and reading arguments that I agreed with but couldn't articulate myself was validating. With Nick Land I kinda feel like I'm reading a guy who has gone too far down the continental rabbithole (and who has done far too many d****) and can't really provide me with anything other than unsettling and plausible explanations for things I previously was not concerned with. Best of luck to you reading him tho, it sure is stimulating in the same way a lot of that French post-structuralist stuff is.
SpaceGhostPurrp, Varg Vikernes and Nick Land are the same types of mavericks in their respective subcultural scenes
I've had this in mind for a while, all three are similar individuals despite their differences.
Extremely neurotic and nihilistic and reactionary but talented savants, perceived as bringing something new to the table that evolved from the past, they were also fascinated with esotericism, intensifying that aesthetic influence in the broader scene
that first guy
one of the absolute funniest social media horror stories. the guy was an actual nazi then read Deleuze and decided he was actually a gay crossdresser and now just s***posts and has a huge following from it

I have a hard time understanding them because they contradict themselves all the time in their memes.
I assume their account is the edgy left/post-left philosophical theory-nerd version of JReg, where it's just super ironic

well that's the level of coherency from someone who was a literal nazi who now is a gay post-left nihilist lol
i wouldn't take anything they say seriously, it's basically all irony just like anyone else making memes for fringe views

i read post modernism today and have no grasp on post modernism and it’s not a good introduction and it’s not trying to be it’s a critique of post modernism
Late response but basically what ur saying is it would better to have some prior knowledge on what postmodernism is before delving into critiques of it?
