Always liked it but Video Game sounds even better in this electronic world Sufjan has built 3 tracks in

The smooth transition from Death Star to Goodbye...

It still sounds a little too whiny for me but I can live with it now

I love how every track has a proper and an awesome outro.
Literally in love with every track except the 3 singles: video game, sugar (although I love the 2+ minutes intro of this song), and America. But they arent bad songs, just not to the level of the rest
My favorites right now are: Make Me An Offer I Cannot Refuse, Tell Me You Love Me, Ursa Major, Landslide, Ativan.
This is a solid 9/10 after my first listen

I like this album on first go, it's very nice, but nothing has blown me away like his classics. Lyrics aren't at C&L level. Chill record for sure, some great production and textures. 7.0 is pretty low but 7.8 or so feels right.

Finishing Ativa right now and I'm fairly whelmed. Die Happy and Make Me An Offer are the standouts so far

  • Sep 25, 2020

I wanna love you (I wanna love you)
And Im definitely gonna do it

The electronic production was a big risk and nothing prepared us for it. A lot of people aren’t into it, which is fair. So I understand how the album is divisive.
Electronic is my favorite genre and he killed it. Everything was sharp and beautifully layered.

    Death Star is very good

  • not sure if i can get into this.. maybe a bit too electronic

True. But I really meant with the singles he picked. Planetarium also had a lot of electronic and ambient elements.

So this a classic or what?

  • Sep 25, 2020

Super dense album.. need to spend time with this one. But upon the first couple of listens I really dig it.

    Current fav: Ativan
    Least fav: Die Happy

I love how he switches it up album to album. 20+ years career and still managing to keep things fresh. That's worthy of praise!
