Haven’t seen anyone mention the album version of Sugar. Absolutely stunning. That intro really builds what’s to come. I’ll go ahead and say this is the album’s climax & one of Sufjan’s grandest tracks.

This dude is an incredible producer. Like generational tier. He’s produced & wrote every single track on here. This project is layered with packs and packs of synths, drums & electronics & vocals. Wow.

I remember people not liking Sugar but hearing it for the first time here and it's fantastic

the vocals mix are insane he does choirs and crazy overdubs all over it

descriptive:
tracks that fill the tracklist to extend the runtime but also give the a
music more time to breathe or fulfill other narrative functions.

I like everything on here but “Ativan” and “The Ascension ” are especially incredible

IMO the album is a little on the long side for sure but I think it works to its benefit. It reminds me a lot of the National album from last year; it just takes an angle and rolls with it. if the sound doesn't work for you from the start, you're not gonna be into it. Do I think it could have been trimmed a bit? Sure. Would I get rid of any song in particular..... I don't think so... I love all of them

I just sat down to listen to a little bit of this for the second time and I'm almost done the whole record now. totally enraptured.

Reminds me too much of Caribou when he sings on the electronic production here

Phoebe bridgers' album is probably still my favorite this year but this one is def up there for me

Not crazy about Death Star or Lamentations yet but this is such a great album. It reminded me a lot of Sisyphus and Adz on first listen but the more I hear it the more wrong I think that was.
