The legal fight erupted after Walker informed Interscope in August that she would soon stop working under the agreement.
According to the complaint, her original 2017 agreement and subsequent amendments obligated her to deliver five studio albums, with her earlier projects, Last Day of Summer and CLEAR, classified as “pre-album projects” that did not count toward that album total.
Music industry experts who reviewed a draft of the agreement for Rolling Stone described its terms as “brutal,” with an uncertain duration and little flexibility for the singer. Walker was set to receive an initial advance of just $110,000, with larger advances for subsequent albums. Her royalty rate for her first two albums was set at 16 percent, meaning she would receive 16 cents for every dollar in applicable royalty revenue, but only after recouping her advance and other costs charged against her earnings.
man f*** these labels
Dam they got her
What the f*** man
the s*** these labels pull whenever an artist is willing to walk away is nasty
they really had her in a f***ed up deal, only 110k advance and 16% of every earned dollar

f*** it lol lets make this thread fun.
Now what do you say if label responds, “but we’re the ones that gave you your career tho”
Don’t get me wrong, this contract positively sucks.most label contracts suck. But also poverty sucks and playing the long game via being independent really sucks plus how am I gon tell somebody be patient and wait when (insert rapper name here cause too many die now) just got shot? (vince staples quote). Indie Summer Walker prolly still working at the pole at least on the side lets be honest.
That 115k advance sounds insultingly small but to an Atlanta ex-stripper (and to most other humans) that is a life saving amount of money.
Usually I’d take the “yall still signing deals for real?” (Jay z voice) and be like its 2026 why niggas not reading the contracts but, it’s a slick predatory game they do to at risk demographics that are super duper talented but also super duper vulnerable that any advance over 100k they signing right away. Then they get smarter over the next few years and only then realize how big they get f***ed over when essentially it’s kinda too late.
Plus lets be so honest, with the way Summer acts outside of music, without the machine behind her she prolly dont really gets the career popping like that.
Theres surely no way they can prove 50 mil worth of damages
woah
janky ass labels mannn

caping for labels and their predatory contracts is a choice
f*** them
i dont really care what she did before, 100k advance is not enough for them to 'own' her for a decade
f*** umg, interscope, republic etc.
they keep f***ing over their artists because most artist are locked into the predatory contracts

Caping for =\= explaining how contract works (especially when I say in the same post that the contract sucks)
I’m just saying out of every artist that ever had a machine behind them push them out towards the mainstream I’d assume that the artist that: hate hates performing live and usually looked like she aint wanna be there performing on stage (to the point the internet made jokes about it), hates appearing in public and…usually looked like she aint wanna be there (to the point the internet made jokes about it)
I would not be surprised if the label did a LOT of heavy lifting behind Summer Walker
But I agree FUCK the labels
This is why going independent is always the best choice. The problem is they (the artists) clearly dont see it that way.
All these women be self proclaimed lauryn hill fans but willingly ignore all the bullshit she went through..just to go through the same bullshit that she went through dawg at some point niggas gotta either start being real about what do they want to be in this “industry”
Because when de la soul got f***ed over, they aint have the information.
Nigga we have the internet now and these niggas still wont even read they contracts bruh like clearly niggas dont wanna buck the system
