Why would anyone walk to a label these days with what’s going on

  • Anyway this just another example of how big name companies/entities take advantage of artists.

Funding and marketing if I had to guess

because even though jamila woods (independent) was selling out a lot of the dates, she still had to cancel the UK and European dates for the water made us tour because she just couldn't afford the financial loss that it would still put her at

because "it cost $200k to break 1 song" - T-Pain

because all Fat Possum (indie label) did for Ghais Guevara was one Super Bowl beat placement and nothing else to the point he left the label.

  • Positivenamehere

yeah they should but them crackers wont so instead let's teach said black artists how to f***ing hold out instead of jumping at the first opportunity for money OR just to go f***ing independent like people have been yelling for decades

    #fairs

  • telling yall if artists were forced to have how much they have in their actual bank account like on top of their heads like a health bar, so many people would be so shocked and appalled at how bad this industry is and how little amount of artists that are actually making BANK off of their catalog.

  • She don’t have that money and they know that. They’re trying to destroy her

  • It's also important to tell these young Black artists who go independent with their own original name and aesthetic that they can still get hit with bullshit copyright lawsuits by major entities.

And there will be people who will jump through hoops to defend the major entities doing it.

Most of what we think of that comes from artists niggas would hate to admit isn’t possible without a label

An artist with no label truly, looks like Ghais Guevara, potentially could change the game with the right team and infrastructure but ends up just complaining out of frustration on social media everyday

  • Benny Boy

Summer Walker is the talent. Her team and the label are supposed to reach a deal that balances her interests against theirs. That's how that works.

If it was a bad deal, then they share in that blame.

Except Justice isn’t her actual day to day manager (Tunde and Summer P Walker at the time of this presumable deal being signed) he’s just the tastemaker who is most notably attached to being the face of the label presumably because the vibe and aesthetic is his brainchild but he’s not the one who necessarily should be held accountable for a person’s actual manager being on some bullshit lol

People only do this with black executives lol

This “use ovxrkxst as conversation fodder in every thread while not even listening to his music” gimmick you been on for the last few weeks is a bit troubling

Not for nothing, it really ain't the worst thing if you don't sign with a major label in this day and age at least. If you gotta love for the craft and enjoy doing things how you want it you got niggas like Father, Robb Banks, Pink Siifu, and Khalil Blu who have seemed to figure it out for themselves. They make the music they wanna make, collab with who they wanna collab with, and tour where they want (or can).

It ain't super glamorous (that's ultimately subjective anyway) but they all seem happy with their careers and still put out great music. Where there's a will there's a way

    Desperation and budget

  • Pre album projects is sinister

    Ouch

    Regardless

if ur alr big enough to be making good independent money why let a label try and do this s*** to u

Like folks can easily "get it out the mud" as an indie but summer walker barely liked going outside to even begin with cause #anxiety but now it's f*** the label mane watch aht.

and once again, I said the deal sucks. But majority of major label deals sucks (which is why the contract talk during #thatbeef never made sense to me cause dawg both of yall niggas had bad contracts) but "What's the point of talking if nobody ever learns?"

    Eryn Allen Kane

  • Why did she had to get all that plastic surgery? She was very pretty now she looks like a generic IG girl.

  • Positivenamehere

at the time they prolly was shopping for what was the best deal available. And I'm saying at that time, Summer prolly also thought that was the best deal available.

Most of the hubub is moreso about the split percentage (which folks have realized is the average) than the number of albums let's be real lol.

And if 16% of the profits we call a bad deal, then we gotta call a spade a spade and say majority of the deals these artists sign are a bad deal lol.

them citing "music industry experts" settles it for me!

  • Ishkam

Lmaoo when you think about it thats exactly what she does

Talking about niggas aint s*** and you dating a nigga named “Rico Recklezz” lmfaooo
