Folklore is an incredible album and it’s completely different than what anybody would expect her to release. This isn’t a random indie artist either, she’s one of the most popular artists in the USA.

On the other hand we have hip hop artists making the same, tired, copycat formulaic music making this one of the worst years ever for the genre. New guys copying other new guys, legends making bland music or going crazy and jay electronica making one of the most boring albums in years.

Hip hop needs a genre defining album, is kendrick our only hope?

Hip Hop could use some innovation from the big players absolutely but I don’t think the Taylor Swift album was genre defining at all and I don’t think it will influence the direction of pop much at all which seems to be what you want from a Hip Hop album
