i wish Teyana's album was 20 minutes
Never got around to listening to it ngl. Is it any good?
Males
Dvsn - A muse in her feelings
Xavier Omar - If you feel
Trey songz - Back Home
Females
Kacy Hill - Is it selfish if we talk about me again
UMI - Introspection
SZA - Ctrl - came out in 2017 but i’ll list it because it should be the Rnb AOTY every year
Jhene Aiko - Chilombo
trey actually delivered, dvsn is always nice. and xavier just dropped but his was really dope too.

it needed an editor, she buried a handful of good songs in an hour and a half long album for no reason. thats why im not really against short albums if they just get right to it
KTSE worked for that reason imo, but she went the opposite way with this one
My question is why is Chilombo up for AOTY and not R&B AOTY?
Ion know why it got a nomination in general
all these nominations have really made me realize
music kinda f***ing sucked this year across the board ngl
lianne la havas and keiyaa have better albums than everyone on that list
Talk to em
all these nominations have really made me realize

I am extremely surprised that ant clemons got a nom and who is gregory porter??
Edit:
Didn’t mean to create negativity or spread hate at all with the original comment. I agree that this year there were definitely female artists who should have replaced some of these male artists.
My only point was that in the event that there actually were 5 male artists who put out the best albums, and 5 males got nominated, there’s always someone who would try to knock the nominations.
Again, agreed that some of the nominations for this year are not good, that’s why my original comment said “what if there actually were...”
Yes
Diversity of perspectives is better than faux objectivity (“what if all the best REALLY WERE male?”) in art
I’d question the criteria for ‘best’ when it comes to classifying artistic expression if everything ‘considered the best’ ends up centered around one gendered perspective
I am extremely surprised that ant clemons got a nom and who is gregory porter??
they were just going out of their way to not nominate The Weeknd
all these nominations have really made me realize

We’ve been saying this all year
But also who cares for rock in 2020
tbh I’ve listened to that phoebe bridgers album more times than all the rap + rnb nominations combined
they were just going out of their way to not nominate The Weeknd
s*** is weird
