HOW ARE THEY PUTTING THEIR OWN TWIST OF IT WHEN I CAN BLATANTLY HEAR THEM BORROWING FROM THAT SONG
Yea like the bon iver influence is too similar, but I mean they did that on ABIIOR with the bon iver vocal effects and stuff. I think this is the point in their career where they are trying to figure out what sound they want to have in the future.
It’s kinda like they are starting out as a band again with more experience making songs.
Good description, I definitely agree with you even though I liked the album. Even if this is “bad” by others, I still feel they never have made bad music in their career.
I'm sure some of it will grow, ILIWYS took time to grow on me too. A Brief Inquiry is the only album I really love by them.
I think I'll probably like the tracks more if they pop up in shuffle or something. I hope lol
Almost halfway through and this is a complete snoozer, so f***ing boring
Alright this got better, it’s solid tbh. Lots of filler though
Album is great throughout the first 14 or so tracks so far. Ya'll some normies tbh. Idk how you can like the sounds of the last album and come out thinking this is trash
There is way more going on here than on A Brief Inquiry. I think it's a more than fair critique to not like the sound of the album

I would like to think that, but as a band your voice shouldn’t be guided by making a million different genres of songs and expecting one thing to land and not thinking other tracks are going to falter

I'm not sure about saying an artist is ripping off Bon Iver EVERY time a prismizer appears on a song. It's getting tired lol
Prismizer is to Autotune is to Talkbox. The effects are there for everyone to use in their own way
After three/four listens unfortunately It's not growing on me
First impression was more than Okay but I expected it to grow on me like crazy
Not the case :( still a 6 or 7 /10 if I had to rate it
Not groundbreaking but not BAD
One thing is a big turnoff tho
They had this thing going with making the same song in different version as their intros
This time they decided to make a statement and put Greta there
Everyone goes WOW
Then People "Fuck Barack Obama" looks like it's getting political
I thought it's gonna be the most important album of the century with Matty going against Climate Change, Homophobia, Racism...
And well... this is far from that
Why put Greta as your intro if you don't want to follow that theme AT ALL

hahahaha well the full lyric is "my generation wanna f*** Barack Obama" so it's not an attack, just another classic Matty line
But I feel what you're saying about the intro. I actually hate and LOVE that move. Love it because Matty/the band just does whatever the f*** they want and that's cool. And it's important and they stand for s***. Consistently and unapologetically. That makes it pretty bold and admirable to me.
But also I'm sure that I won't wanna hear that s*** every single time I start the album but I love it as just as a "fuck you, listen up" to the listeners. Genius that they still named it The 1975
^^^I think my thoughts on that one song might actually sum up my feelings about how they went about recording this album lol
I would like to think that, but as a band your voice shouldn’t be guided by making a million different genres of songs and expecting one thing to land and not thinking other tracks are going to falter
Oh no I totally agree, but at the same time, these albums are needed to make the albums and music that sets you apart in the future. In my opinion I feel like they should’ve made these mixtapes instead of an actual full length, but I guess I get why they did it.

Right, but people were still seeing the bon iver influence right away, it’s an instrument, but bon iver was one of the artists who really crafted it the way Matty used it, without really adding anything new to it.

I would wait for the next one honestly, it’s gonna be more like people

I can’t really see a band signed to a major label too much of a point in making a mixtape lol
This is just not a good way to make an album in all honesty
I just cant get over the fact that the guys realized putting out a 22 track album after being called the new Radiohead is a really pretentious idea and they still did it anyways

If The 1975 is ripping off Bon Iver than Duture is ripping off T-Pain.
Stop this nonsense.
(Hot take: every artist I just mentioned is garbage as well, The 1975 do Autotune and whateverthehell that bon iver instrument is way better than most artists)
