So we can't critique nothing he does, got it boss.
you can critique it but maybe don't be a giant d*** about it? and pretend like the guy is deluded because he sees something you don't? f*** all the way out of here. so tired of this ignorant type s***
Y'know what, yall got it. For a second I almost forgot where I was at.
Any other artist playing wit a dead nigga's acapella like this and yall be frying him (shoutout to Drake using MJ vocals and yall receiving that so well) but it's different for Yeezus Christ. I apologize.
Now I understand the artistic merit of Xtcy and Drunk and Hot Girls now.
you are all over the place here man. there's a specific topic that some of us are trying to talk about here and you're doing laps rn
nobody is talking about xtcy or drunk and hot girls or junya
don't care what anyone's (unfounded) over reading of the Donda version of the track is. S***'s objectively bad and could be executed 100 different more compelling ways even with the interpretations being given. When you can hear the headphone bleed of the old beat still in the track like that, you gotta stop cutting Ye so much slack and just acknowledge that it's lazy and sloppy.
I forgot to mention the fact that everytime he touches up the Donda version it somehow gets WORSE
Like just let it rest the tracks already ruined

this whole thread plus OP plus this post got me sad laughing

shhhhhh, DON'T SAY THAT.

How is it “unfounded”?
How is it “unfounded”?
Because Kanye has never said anything about the track, never indicated any kind of deeper meaning to it. It's conjecture at best.

Bro he hasn’t said anything about his music in like a decade? It’s “conjecture” to think that the track might have some sort of deeper meaning? What the f***?
I just want niggas to let that kid rest in peace.
and my positive interpretation of a tribute to him gave u unrest? this is peace brother
one of the rzns i like the track is that it ain't like the other ones posted in the OP. pop smoke been havin a musical career for nearly 2 years after he died. i dont like that either. yea i'm hopin that his family is getting some money out of it, but overall i think it's in bad taste for him to be constantly given "tributes" that are not-really-lowkey using his death as marketing for posthumous work that the labels/managers/industry-whoevers reap the most out of. so to me, ye's "tribute" feels more sincere as it aint trying to paint a picture of "here's a posthumous pop smoke song that will make me a lotta money cus pop smoke", it's a melancholic and somewhat jarring piece that neglects the pop-appeal/money-seeking element of smoke's usual posthumous songs and focuses on just one thing, the dude himself
i like it a lot, and i think we agree on our general sentiment of pop smoke's treatment in musical output post-death. i just happen to think that this song avoids a lotta the issues w/ how his music has been used in other situations n offers a diff perspective. no1 has to agree on that part

And to me, if you are going with this intent
At the very least have the respect to use his actual stems then cause otherwise it comes off as a lazy and half-hearted effort.

He had a version with the actual stem, he didn't like it and pick the one with the DIY vocals. No one has to like the release version but it was intentionally done like that

proof?
and if so ye really more far gone than I thought. Cause just as a listener that s*** sounded horrible. Don't care how good intentions you got, I'm skipping it everytime.

If he hasn't talked about his music like that in nearly a decade... maybe that's not the lens he's looking through his projects in now?
You can say whatever you want about the track, but the burden of proof is on you, because there's nothing that the artist has said that would indicate an interpretation like that. It's fun to speculate, but I wouldn't feel comfortable using that interpretation to defend the song.

i can get why ya think that. personally it doesnt bother me, but i also don't get bothered by the organs making that scratchy sound in Pure Souls lol
u built different
im built different
may u have peace brother

So the only way to try and interpret art is to wait for Kanye to talk to the drink champs about it. Got it

I think it was a few of the leakers who have it or blackmass.
Yeah I don't like it either, but if the leakers are right then he wanted it like for a specific reason for the album and not just cause he was lazy to use the actual stems for it
So the only way to try and interpret art is to wait for Kanye to talk to the drink champs about it. Got it
this is all nore's fault
Started as a song with Ye 2 Chainz and Conway The Machine, with a full beat and even an outro. Hard as brix
!https://youtu.be/1l9lpFjwOCQThen for whatever reason it turned to a Pop Smoke song with a completely different beat and a horrid Pusha T verse. But still listenable
!https://youtu.be/o7jsf2PeYB8Here’s what they used
!https://youtu.be/i4Wvf2dvu7UNow all that’s left is a piano with poorly isolated vocals
!https://youtu.be/5Z2NpIh1gV0It went from a complete song to absolutely lifeless, literally.
what happened
Also the Kanye version was never finished, conway verse supposed to be for Kanye and chainz verse doesn’t sound finished either, and when it got scrapped it was given to pop Smoke prolly cause Steven victor begged him
I will not talk myself into like that s*** Rory and Mal Show I’ll tell you that much
S*** cool sometimes depending on the guest
So the only way to try and interpret art is to wait for Kanye to talk to the drink champs about it. Got it
Lol that's not what I'm saying.
The point I'm making is that reading so much into this is purely speculative. The artist has not indicated the purpose of the work. So based only on the information we have, it's a lazy track. You can try to come up excuses for it, but you're arguing for its value based only on aspects that MIGHT be true.
