but also if we're being real, stores could have made this better if they addressed the use of bots

    They do
But the bot developers are just as quick to address what they do.

    Its a losing battle.
Same thing with Illegally downloading media
    Its unwinnable

    I agree

    but this isn’t new

sneaker culture has been since 2012 IMO

streetwear probably since 2016 or so, although a lot of the respected og brands had already sold themselves out becoming mallcore for a quick check

this s*** used to be a niche subculture that you really had to discover on your own. now it’s so mainstream that kids look at you crazy if you don’t know what’s what

I blame instagram, rappers, stockx, amongst other things.

I blame Nike too, as much as I’m a Nike head. Nike SB was one of the best things they had going. Only releases at real skate shops that were lucky enough to get accounts depending on how it tune with the culture they were. Then Nike got greedy and started exploiting the hype with lazy rehashes before doing away with SB as we knew it altogether, only to bring them back with extensive rollouts through the SNKRS app. I do like some of the recent collabs, but it doesn’t feel as genuine. Oh well

I remember when Brandon Sales was the biggest herb in the game, now its completely normal to see packs of kids dressed just like him at any given mall

All these bozos buying there way into the game– going to their local round-two rip off store & buying whatever’s hyped, posting it on IG, then trading it for the next new drop. As if we can’t see through you

Dont even get me started on these goofy ass hidden.ny knock off pages that post the same pic of the college dropout bapes every f***ing week theyve become such a parody of themselves, i wouldnt be surprised if they just started posting those simpsons hypebeast edits lmfao

hidden, liljupiterr & all these corny mood-board pages on ig just recycle each other’s and their own content weekly it’s so cringe

then there’s actual educational accounts like samutaro that at least put some effort in having an opinion and providing some insightful commentary

Well said on the segment about people trying to normalize wearing fakes. I remember back in the peak of Tumblr their used to be pages dedicated to exposing people who wore fake box logos, and I have a theory that those are the people today that are turning streetwear culture into what it is now.

I feel like ever since The Ten collection dropped it normalized reselling sneakers for 700+

I remember back in 2014 I bought resale Bred 1s for 300-350$ish and thinking that I was crazy but f*** it I really wanted them. It's a shame cause there's a couple of the OW/Nike pairs that I really like but i'm never spending that much on shoes

The prices for everything has spiked, it's no surprise the counterfeit market is flourishing.

  • Jun 11, 2020

I agree with the majority of s*** you just said.

Tastemaekrs these days are people regurgitating hype photos on insta accounts. and its become pathetic, these same "tastemakers" are now trend activist's not knowing s*** about the culture. Majority of them tried to cancel Virgil no doubt.
