He was alive when those came out tho.
That’s dude (who screenshotted) point lol
You should look up the thread about Death Grip concerts, he actually has a point.
I didn’t disagree thought it was an interesting concept, link that thread if u can
Is it this?

This dude that paints murals in my city called me the day DOOM's death was announced and asked me which lyrics should he put on the mural because he didn't listen to him like that. It's up now and every time I see it I'm like damn.
Perfect example of what I think bruh in OP is talking bout lol
if anything its mac millerification of MF DOOM. I dont think DOOM is quite at the same level of a thoughtless cultural trinket that Basquiat has become

ew, that's kinda f***ed
Can we stop playing the “who has the most cringe fan base” game
Because it’s every artist
People are so scared they gonna look like a nerd for listening to a certain artist they don’t even listen to music anymore
Every time I see you in a music thread you saying some real s***.
it’s like “this is some funny transgressive black people music i don’t take this seriously i only take joy division my bloody valentine and the smiths as serious”
u can throw in earl, rxk nephew+rx papi, and every detroit/flint rapper ever
op should be skinned
What do you mean by your last sentence? The Eric Andre-fication of underground rap
Niggas memeing rap to death and being so corny about the s***
I think there's two likely elements to this comparison:
DOOM becoming this sort of go-to cultural touchstone artist for other rappers and people in general in order to look clued in, cool etc. See: Jay-z constantly referring to basquiat in his late career era
fundamental flaw here is that DOOM was your favourite rapper's favourite rapper like 10-15 years ago too so I'm not really sure there's actually been a material uptick in people now claiming him or claiming him 'falsely'
commercialisation of his image. I think this is a more valid comparison just cos obviously there has been an increase in merch from official channels, the recent supreme collab etc. as has been said though the sb dunks long predate this and are probably the most well known piece of doom branded clothing. I think his image hasn't been branded out too much just yet but might be seen as a good comparison in ten years if we're seeing like DOOM branded stuff pop up in fast fashion lines etc
If anything the "i don't listen to rap except" artist has always been Eminem
Ground zero
he's been an enigma, way before his death.
people would wear doom shirts and the sb's and didnt know anything about his music. the mask was just that legendary
it’s always been this way idk how this s*** any different when his original fans treated him as a docile comic book nerd and with surface level a***ysis of his art
this s***
for many, everything that isn't draped in mainstream aesthetics or doesn't have the potentiality to be competitive in the mainstream is consumed post-ironically
and yes this picture signifies something a lot more racially charged but you'd never think that an artist like immortal technique, doom, etc were dehumanized in the way that so many alt rappers are nowadays
pic is photoshopped btw
Every time I see you in a music thread you saying some real s***.
Appreciate that man
