I think the way all this has taken place has been quite interesting to see. This album went from being absolutely torn apart upon drop, to some people coming around to the project in coming days. And now whether it hasegs remains to be seen.
I think it's really interesting in the sense of, this project wasnt just taken as different and criticized like a normal album: see Fantano for example. He always hates Drake. But this time around he didn't even give him points for the things he does right while looking at what he does wrong. He went straight for the jugular, and so did so many others.
To say you don't like this project is obviously normal. But to say it did absolutely nothing right? Not even deserving of a score? That's scary for artist looking forward. Feels as though you can't even take a detour and be steered a little better for another try at it, instead people will tear it down and tell you "This is horrible never even touch this again" and that crams artist into a small space in an already stagnant genre.
For music
pitchfork gave it an accurate review with 6.6 score
Turn the 6 upside down its a 9.9 now
I don't care what it sells. I'm talking critically, I think a lot of artist will see damn not even Drake can switch up like that and have it unscathe him and they'll be afraid of trying.

" to some people coming around to the project in coming days"
the f*** are you talking about
You can say this about pretty much every album that’s dropped in the past year or so. Why is it special because it’s drake?
I like the album a lot, but why are we acting like this is the first album to get panned upon release?

Some people that didn't like it now do like it? Hard concept?

Not to be panned. But panned and flopping, as the "numbers" guy, probably means not touching this again.
bro saw a fantano review and decided to drop an entire essay
He wasn't the only one to aggressively s*** on the album.

Feel like it's a pretty big example, would seem to say staying the same is the way to go.

I think you're making good points but tbh the fact that it is Drake specifically sharpens the s***-talking, whereas another artist probably actually would get a little more leeway, at least if they aren't also a very public superstar who is so fun to mock
niggas did the same s*** for 808 and heartbreaks
None of this matters. The niggas who are brave enough to try different stuff will still do it.
Nothing will change
If this will be enough to make artists stop trying at large (which it won’t be, most don’t try anyway and those who will try will try anyway), then that’s more of a reflection of them being pussies than anybody who doesn’t like the album being some villain who’s killing artistic expression
Drake always gets the most hate online, but ends up in the most listened on year end lists by those same haters lol
