it isn't a double entendre, no grown person is playing with Happy Meals
What do you have to say about the Channing Tatum line?

You toying (toy in) with it like happy meal?? and what does that have to do with anything it's just a simile.

And what I have to say is nothing because we wasn't talking about that.

It is pretty interesting that people will have to nit-pick a couple of lines, on a whole album, to support their argument.

I’d like to highlight the intro.

The great album cuts in U With Me, Feel No Ways, Weston Road Flows, Redemption.

The great R&B joint in Fire & Desire. Some would say that is a top 10 Drake song, which says a lot.

Hits. One Dance, Too Good, Hotline Bling and Controlla.

The title track is underrated when it comes to Drake spitting bars.

Yall nit-pick a line on a song or two to discredit the album.

    Go ahead though. We know.

    a bad one

You can't give a good reason of why it's bad though. It's almost like you just went with whatever narrative someone thought up for you and just ran with it without any critical thinking.

Gonna listen to Views now because of this thread

  • Jan 26, 2020

I hear you but I still think More Life is far better than views and that was in the middle of all the beef and controversy. He managed to find the silver lining, although briefly, on that album and looked at his troubled state with a birds eye view perceptive.

For instance, even though he ran off some steam towards Kanye on do not disturb he still had Ye on the album and kept rapping about his need to find inner peace.

Alright now I feel like a monumental moron for not catching the ‘toy-in’ flip, SMFH.

I ain't avoiding it I just said we weren't talking about that. You the one asking about that line trying to avoid my question but if you are so obsessed with it let me give my opinion.

Drake likes to use wit and jokes a lot in his raps and just like any comedian you are going to have jokes that don't land. That was a corny joke that didn't really land on a song I personally don't like that much and hated the fact that was even put on Views and released as a single. But bruh if one bad line can ruin a whole album then a lot of good to classics albums would, as you would so eloquently put be, be trash.

You regurgitate the same opinion as everyone else that that and the happy meal line are examples of bad lines that prove Views was bad yet can never name any other instances. Outside of Weston Road Flows and Views I agree the rapping was nothing impressive but I have more range when it comes to describing and reviewing a body of work so I wouldn't call something bad just because one aspect of it wasn't outstanding. Almost everything else about the album was great.

I think it's a very solid album that aged pretty well
However, there are some issues that prevent it from being in the same level as TC and NWTS:
1 - Extreme lack of cohesiveness, Drake tried to put every sound he could on this album, and imo it just didn't work
2 - Failed execution, that reflects itself in the bars I mentioned and other lackluster songs as a whole
3 - The angry vibe of a lot of songs, that comes because mainly of the beef he had with Meek Mill
4 - Length of the album, this album could've been condensed to a much mor concise body of work, it doesn't need to be 20 songs (80 minutes)

Hence me saying it got in Drakes head too that he had made a bad album. When it really was good.

Bare in mind that, while many of the songs, despite not being great in a album as a whole (since there is a collision of too many sounds, that don't mix or go together well), are absolutely fine as individual tracks

    1. It is more cohesive than ML and Scorpion. It actually flows pretty good.

    2. Some of his biggest songs are on the album. It was his biggest commercially successful album to date. He reached another level with this album, becoming the biggest artist in the world. How is that failed execution.

    3. "Angry vibes"? What are you even saying. That is diffuse af. Please define this. Because I would say you can argue most rappers and raps can be said to have an "angry" tone to them. This is a bullshit point. Taken from what Drake said in interview that 40 said "you sound angry". Now you running with it. Please point out a song where he rapping and being "angry" on the album.

    4. Ah, the length point. "It is too long". That is subjective to each listener. I do argee 14-16 would have been more optimal. But that is a nit-pick type of criticism to make.
