    Mr America

I mean everything changes. Ppl could argue that s*** in the 00s was worse than the 90s and it was ppl in the 90s that didnt even think rap was good at all

it isn’t really about whether or not it’s “good” to me personally, ‘cause i f*** with Ken Carson and some of the other rage music niggas or whatever, it’s more the way the music is treated and perceived for me more than anything else

i personally don’t understand why something like say DS2 is treated as a hip-hop classic in the same breath as a GKMC or a Ready To Die even if i can acknowledge it’s a very well produced, strong hip-hop album

feel like the music is way too different just in general to be treated in one homogenous group where we draw comparisons lowkey

he talking about them niggas like they’re Wu-Tang or some s***

and even referring back to the thread topic, Carti has given Rocky flowers in interviews so idk what he’s talking about

nigga literally said Rocky was like a father figure

exactly lmao then once niggas called him out he changed it to peers for whatever, which his only examples is niggas carti had business with so theres a clear correlation there

and as i said before, carti and travis was literally the only niggas after the kendrick, drake n cole class that were bigging up older rap and actually knew history when everyone else was s***ting on it "as rockstars" - so hes wrong again and they have feats with older niggas too, which carti doesnt really do anymore but travis still does to this dayhes always on a random old nigga new album

and the thing is, i dont even care for carti like that LMAO

  • it seems like you’re identifying these two as causes of what you’re describing instead of just symptoms.

also carti was kinda responsible for the last great hip hop moment before the beef so i’m good with him tbh

2 rappers who don't care about hip hop. Only thing they care about is the bag. I'd like to blame the consumers instead but I get ur point. It's insane how protected Carti is when it comes to criticism

I would say they both care about hiphop, they just don’t care about the original qualities of what made hiphop what it is, at least Carti. Travis at least has elements of traditional rap throughout a lot of his music

what do these 2 have in common besides that you've lumped them together to make another "rap bad now" post

    this too

  • Oct 1, 2024

    very different artists

yorkie is a racist that doesn’t like rap music but that particular post is correct to an extent

it isn’t easy to contort and bend your voice in a pleasing fashion like Carti and ‘em do it at all

    with that being said:

wiped my response cause i think @browser put it way better than how i could say it^^

It’s rly crazy cuz why r u a rap fan n then pretending that Carti n thug are doing the MC s*** of the greats

Makes me sound like I agree w OP but it’s an aside

A lot of the actual traditions of hiphop are dying and tbh i wouldnt blame any 2 artists in specific, s*** just changes over time, it feels a lot faster too with the internet

taking a page from rock criticism would be helpful.

like they’re all classes but they’re context is take. into consideration more

i mean if u make music u know it takes skill and creativity to do the type of vocal inflections that carti does on WLR

Man that album is wack. That’s literally white kid music

    you could even say

carti and trav making their own style is actually more hiphop in spirit than the people copying them endlessly and/or copying a gentrifcation of the 90s

but regardless, they both always gave theor respect and gave work back

That may be it. But there has been such a significant drop.

Even artist like Future and Thug you can still trace hip hop roots in they s***.

Despite how far and out the box they take it.

Carti & Trav s*** is something else completely

Yea you arent wrong tho, travis and carti are some of the biggest on that side of rap thats doing away with the traditions, but future is from the dungeon in atlanta, he was around a lot of actual OGs, thats why hes my goat, he knows the rules and how to break them properly

i like how comics did it at first where they had ages, and they weren’t viewed as better or worse than the other ones. just different contexts and different motivations

  • Oct 1, 2024

like directly comparing tpab and whole lotta red gets us nowhere it’s more about how successful they are at executing the sounds/ideas/aesthetics that the songs are trying to convey

Wayne Thug Future you can all tell genuinely have a love and appreciation for Hip Hop and Rap.

i disagree. they the main niggas in the mainstream actually pushing the genre creatively

Feel the issue here is y'all value just pushing it and not the direction it's being pushed.

I don't think the direction they've pushed the genre is really a good one at all

in the 80s people were upset that rock was loosing all of its blues influence but all those changes ended up giving us s*** like nirvana, so i think ultimately change is a good thing even with pain points
