i mean if u make music u know it takes skill and creativity to do the type of vocal inflections that carti does on WLR
RFT
RFT
RFT
It’s rly crazy cuz why r u a rap fan n then pretending that Carti n thug are doing the MC s*** of the greats
Makes me sound like I agree w OP but it’s an aside
bra cause y’all treat it that way wtf
there was a whole nigga on here saying Travis and Carti were better songwriters than Eminem
that being said i don’t think of em the same way at all, i just do think there needs to be more effort in distinguishing these types of hip-hop anyways
Feel the issue here is y'all value just pushing it and not the direction it's being pushed.
I don't think the direction they've pushed the genre is really a good one at all
but we don’t have a choice really, the conversation goes where it goes. you can’t just say wait i wish we would’ve done x when you brought up point A
i like how comics did it at first where they had ages, and they weren’t viewed as better or worse than the other ones. just different contexts and different motivations
i think rap needs to be more accepting of sub genres
its one thing rap has never been good with - from ny hating on west n especially south - to people hating on autotune vocals - to be hating on the " "mumble" " flow of migos, thug and future and so on
trap and gfunk are the only ever accepted side tags recognized by most (and boom bap in retrospective)
i mean if u make music u know it takes skill and creativity to do the type of vocal inflections that carti does on WLR
Most people could make a Carti song with enough practice, but do you know how much skill it takes to do that and still make something with storytelling like east 1999?

this is its own discussion
better songwriters? me personally yes
better mc? em probably has it
There are rappers and legends before them that have had a worse impact on rap than these two lol
Carti and Travis don't make hip hop. They are rappers but they don't make hip hop. Kinda like Kelly Clarkson is a singer but she doesn't make Rock or Bluegrass.
We need more people to recognize rap as an instrument/delivery
Whatever genre of rap music they make they have only made better

i agree with this, yeah i just think they’re too lumped together to really have great discussion
cause directly comparing two artists that have completely different motivations for their work doesn’t do anything for anyone
2 rappers who don't care about hip hop. Only thing they care about is the bag. I'd like to blame the consumers instead but I get ur point. It's insane how protected Carti is when it comes to criticism

I think quite the opposite
They make hiphop but they ain’t making rap
but we don’t have a choice really, the conversation goes where it goes. you can’t just say wait i wish we would’ve done x when you brought up point A
All I said was I think the guys who like the music value pushing things rather than where it's being pushed.
I don't see how you got the response you just gave out of that
Most people could make a Carti song with enough practice, but do you know how much skill it takes to do that and still make something with storytelling like east 1999?
but it’s just the same amounts of skill and creativity in different directions
it doesn’t make one better than the other
I think quite the opposite
They make hiphop but they ain’t making rap
Rap is a delivery just like singing or screaming. They definitely rap.
I think quite the opposite

Yeah which is a big problem is rap is over run with non rappers with fans who get really angry if you say they aren't rappers.
I think quite the opposite
They make hiphop but they ain’t making rap
You might got it flipped. They make vibe type rap.
this is its own discussion
better songwriters? me personally yes

ig it depends on how we define songwriting cause that’s a hard disagree for me
prime Eminem had a rtarded pen
there wasn’t a single thing he could not do bro

Flow is delivery

What is Hip Hop then

i’m not saying he’s not a great rapper or doesn’t have the pen, i’m just saying i personally prefer the songs on cartis projects than i do ems
but like i said directly comparing two artists
like this just isn’t helpful
but it’s just the same amounts of skill and creativity in different directions
it doesn’t make one better than the other
Never said that, I was just speaking on how it’s regressed. A lot of what Carti does is perfected in the post. It’s why what they were doing back in the day is impressive cause they were doing way more with less in multiple genres
But we still do have to admit that they have contributed to the lack of care for literacy in their form of rap aside from making a vibe and a few catchy lyrics sound good
just because their style or approach is different doesnt mean they dont have respect.
no what f***ed it up is niggas thinking not writing is acceptable for the average artist.
but travis still has a lot of core elements if you want ot be technical, hes still rapping, he still using "rap beats", the structure and so on - but that doesnt mean you have to like it, but just because you dont like it doesnt mean its disrespect.
same with carti outside of wlr.
what isnt rap is the s*** nowadays where dudes literally arent rapping their slurry singing like a lot of the ish melz posts about in the last two years - that is not rap at all, in a very literal sense.
the current underground is filled either with ish melz posts (using him as a general example cuz i dont remember the artists by name) or with huge throwbacks to 90s.
one side is not even rapping anymore and the other side isnt innovating anymore. and that leads into the further convo of rap losing its grip and becoming stagnant.
I mean everything changes. Ppl could argue that s*** in the 00s was worse than the 90s and it was ppl in the 90s that didnt even think rap was good at all
True but the 90s & 2000s (even early 2010s) still had timeless records that you can listen too at any age
Carti’s music is gonna age horribly once my gen gets older
