But we still do have to admit that they have contributed to the lack of care for literacy in their form of rap aside from making a vibe and a few catchy lyrics sound good

Their form of rap is making a vibe and a few catchy lyrics sound good

ITS NOT HIP HOP lol read brother

They're rapping but they're not making hiphop they're making some other subgenre of rap music

We have this problem of grouping everything into the same genre and then not understanding why Carti doesn't sound like Nas or something

It's because they make different genres of music

Kelly Clarkson sings. So does Tom Waits. They make different genres of music.

Look at rapping like singing and everything makes sense

Never said that, I was just speaking on how it’s regressed. A lot of what Carti does is perfected in the post. It’s why what they were doing back in the day is impressive cause they were doing way more with less in multiple genres

i see what u mean but like i just disagree with the idea of regression when it’s just not prioritizing the same things

Feel the issue here is y'all value just pushing it and not the direction it's being pushed.

I don't think the direction they've pushed the genre is really a good one at all

what direction would be considered a good one in your opinion?

what direction would be considered a good one in your opinion?

I think a direction that's prolly more focused on the quality of the raps and less on the image and beats.

You can do all of em but for Carti and Travis and their spawns it's pretty clear the actual words are the least important part of their music which is a shame because lyricism was what Rap had over other genres.

Which is part of why I think you see the decline in rap in general in public interest just the unique things about it have heen stripped away.

True but the 90s & 2000s (even early 2010s) still had timeless records that you can listen too at any age

Carti’s music is gonna age horribly once my gen gets older

I feel like some music like carti would age bad but carti himself isnt. I feel like alot of carti will be the pin points of certain genre shifts

I like Carti and Travis but it's funny how much lower the bar is for them.

Drake dropped some heat on 100 Gigs but people still called it mid and a flop.

But if Travis rapped half as good as Drake did on No Face and Circadian Rhythm, ya'll would be calling him the next Nas lol.

    ngl this is true too

nigga Carti mentioned some of his kids on H00DBYAIR and one of these niggas in the thread was saying his next album was gonna be his most mature and refined like what the f***

  • Oct 1, 2024

Travis is aight but his production carries him. Carti got gassed hard by white kids, a lot of his stuff is just a hard pass

i agree with this, yeah i just think they’re too lumped together to really have great discussion

cause directly comparing two artists that have completely different motivations for their work doesn’t do anything for anyone

    yup.

its funny how rap, espcially pre like 2014, is suppose to be about making your own style.

but whenever someone or an area does it gets s***ted on for not being an already existed form.

NY boo'ed and called Outkast not hiphop and not rap - which sure i guess their psychdelic and (similar to west) funk influences along with more melodic structure and effect usage isnt rap of what ny is doing, whicht theyre mostly using jazz and soul records and very straight forward rapping, but its still using the very core of rap to make its own thing. its just not the exact same thing.

    or biggie and de-la s***ting on e40 and 2pac.

    time is a circle.
