I legit could see Trump switching to the Dem party, going hardcore to take up their policies, and establishment Dem voters being super happy because they’ll act like they just gained an infinity stone and become hardcore Trump supporters and wear blue hats saying MAGA. Trump would do it cause he doesn’t give an actual s*** about any policy/belief other than love for himself and caring about others loving him, and establishment Dem voters would do it because they also don’t actually care about policy.

I don’t think it’s anywhere near likely, but just saying it wouldn’t be out of character for anyone involved.

it would be wildly out of character for everyone involved

Trump showed allegiance to Democrats before when he thought it benefited him pre-Obama. And he has done wild things that don't seem logicial solely because he thinks it benefits him before. How is this out of character for him?

Establishment Dem voters (the types who bleed by what the party says, and don't give a s*** about policy) got boners for Michael Avenatti who was seen as a Democrat version of Trump because they thought he would do well electorally. Why would they not also get boners for the real thing?

Again, I don't at all think this is likely to happen, just that if it did it would be in line with how they operate.

If Trump is ousted from the GOP and decides to form his own third party, will he just straight up call it the Trump Party?

That would be a good way to sum up what the party would actually be

i don't think there is any way even trump could see a benefit in suddenly switching to the side he has been demonizing for years. maybe if this was years ago but the ship has long sailed by now. and i don't think there is any way he'd leave behind his loving fanbase. and i don't think they'd really follow him en masse because they think democrats are literally the devil trying to destroy america

hating trump is basically one of the core parts of establishment democrats identity at this part and i cant see any universe where they would accept trump into the party like that. good point about a "democrat version of trump" but i think we are far far past the point where the real thing would be boner inducing. whether we are talking policies or character it would be a bizarre step to undo like every part of democrat messaging for the past 6 years

also thanks for reminding me of that Avenatti dude's existence what a dumb saga that was

How many wild things has trump done that before he does it if someone would’ve told you, you would’ve been like “ok this dumb af, no way”

Imagine calling any predictions for Donald Trump’s next move in 2022 dumb

But again, the point of my post wasn’t to predict Trumps next move, it was more so to make observations about Trump’s character and the character of establishment Dem voters via the lens of a theoretical scenario.

  • Nov 12, 2022

I will admit on re-reading my post I made it sound too much like I think that scenario is likely (if you don’t read the end), that was my b

All of you are overthinking this.

It literally depends how many good insults trump can come up with.

He can win those debates by being a child.

It seems only republicans and RW twitter truly understand how over it is for Trump

    Yeah I agree

“DeSantis has no chance” in 2022 coming off like “Trump has no chance” in 2015

I feel like for a lot of ppl because their (understandable) reasons for disliking trump and trump supporters haven’t changed, they miss how the dynamics aren’t static in the GOP

  • Nov 12, 2022

Republicans are in an interesting spot for 2024. What should be an easy victory is going to become very complicated thanks to Trump. Trump is despised by so many, I don’t think he stands a great chance of winning the general election. But I do think he will likely win the primary. If he loses the primary somehow, he is not going to endorse whoever beats him, splintering the vote and handing the election to the democrats.

Puts republicans in the lose lose situation of nominate Trump or be sabotaged by Trump.

But if DeSantis can manage to beat trump in the primary without stooping to his level in debates, then it will make him appear as a “centrist” candidate entering the General (even though in reality he may be further right than even Trump policy wise)

DeSantis could easily win the general in 2024 - if Trump endorses him. I think it’s a lot more likely that Trump tries to sabotage Desantis in the general, and having the MAGA section of the Republican Party refuse to vote for the nominee will doom his chances.

  • DeSantis is most likely winning in 2024

If it’s not him, it’s not going to be Trump or Biden that’s for sure
