What are major differences between Desantis and Trump?

Is he as bad as Trump or he's more moderate?

I don't really know much about him

I legit could see Trump switching to the Dem party, going hardcore to take up their policies, and establishment Dem voters being super happy because they’ll act like they just gained an infinity stone and become hardcore Trump supporters and wear blue hats saying MAGA. Trump would do it cause he doesn’t give an actual s*** about any policy/belief other than love for himself and caring about others loving him, and establishment Dem voters would do it because they also don’t actually care about policy.

I don’t think it’s anywhere near likely, but just saying it wouldn’t be out of character for anyone involved.

He’s arguably farther right than Trump, and certainly more overtly authoritarian.

While DeSantis has the veneer of a classic, pre-Trump Republican, his agenda is scarier. Trump is racist, misogynistic etc in a wealthy, old privileged white dude kind of way. He lies frequently and has caused harm to minorities but it’s clear that he doesn’t believe half the s*** he says and in the end, his politics are entirely self-serving and liable to change on a whim if it feeds his ego.

DeSantis is more ideologically pure. He didn’t just happen upon fascism because of his wealth, ego and narcissism. He’s a fascist because he thinks that fascism is good.

Also, his rhetoric wrt “wokeness” and LGBT people is terrifying in a way that Trump’s rhetoric wasn’t. It’s more lucid and indicative of his politics being inhumane off of principle. He‘s one of the biggest proponents of the anti-LGBT movement happening in government right now and no exaggeration, straight up thinks that they should all be excised from society. And WILL see that happen the moment he can.

TLDR; he’s smarter, more electable and more pragmatic than Trump, but he’s also more malicious, more genocidal, more authoritarian than him, and has more capacity to do harm.

i get some real carl schmitt vibes from him tbh

hes probably familiar with him, just like thiel is

    religiondispatches.org/inside-natcon-the-elite-movement-laying-the-foundation-for-a-maga-that-will-outlast-trump-and-remake-america-part-i

this whole “movement” from thiel/yarvin to desantis is just playing the long game

an absolute dictatorship where the dominant truly subordinates the minority and where capital is a king

    Theory

DeSantis could easily win the general in 2024 - if Trump endorses him. I think it’s a lot more likely that Trump tries to sabotage Desantis in the general, and having the MAGA section of the Republican Party refuse to vote for the nominee will doom his chances.

Wouldn't be shocked if he ran a third party campaign if he lost in the primary

Yeah I can imagine him forming a MAGA party. The result would be an electoral landslide for the democrats, and probably the best showing for a third party in history. Would likely force Desantis to run centrist and would allow Biden to go further left if he chose to.

There is another potential outcome as well - a third party run that prevents anybody from reaching 270 votes. Shenanigans ensue.

Yeah unless he kicks the bucket he’ll 100% run a 3rd party campaign in the general when he loses the primary.

Trumps talked s*** about her before so not surprised she’s leaving that grift behind. It’s looking like most republicans are falling behind DeSantis anyway.

Trump is only defending the vaccine to a point because if Dems try to brag about how well they did after Covid. Trump can say it was “his vaccine” that allowed it.

This strategy of just dumping on Trump as hard as possible is going to fail spectacularly imo.

Time and time again we’ve seen these same talking heads defend him against any criticism no matter how valid, suggesting that The Jews were attacking him for speaking the truth or some s***.

We’ve even seen this recently with the Mar-a-Lago raid which, with all the details lined up should raise clear red flags for anyone not already in the MAGA cult. And we’ve seen it with how the right has reacted to all the insane Jan 6th details. No matter what he does, it’s a deep state conspiracy.

Same people grooming the conservative voting base to never question Trump think this is gonna be seen any different

Whoever wins the Dem nomination. I don't think Biden nor Kamala will try to run due to unpopularity. And I don't know if Biden's brain can handle another campaign.
