Shane Gillis, Sam Morril, Mark Normand and Ari Shaffir all made trans jokes. If it's not in their Netflix specials, it's in podcasts or small club routines. It's a topic that's become more popular, laws are being passed around it, of course any decent comedian is gonna make observations about it

Decent comedian? Nah fam but any hack is gonna seize on it

I might be living under a rock but I haven’t heard anything about laws lately, it’s just comedians know it’s edgy and easy

That's like saying, 'any hack is gonna seize on Bush jokes, or seize on Trump jokes.' It's a topic that's exploded in the last 5-10 years, compared to where that topic was at throughout the rest of human history, whether you acknowledge that or not. Correct me if I'm wrong, there have been more laws passed/rejected/voted on trans issues within the past 15 years than there have been within the whole of human history. That means it's a significant change that any worthwhile social commentator would acknowledge, whether you like their angles on it or not

The difference is, the president is way more impactful on the average person than the trans community is

I mean sure in the last 15 years but I’m not taking about that

I’m talking about the last year or 2 in particular. it’s not about the angles on it but just that it’s been run into the ground and over-emphasized. There are way more significant changes to talk about but “man wear dress” is the easiest one to get a laugh

You sound like you’re on some “comedians are the truth tellers” Bs

The world, outside of you and me, decides what gets a laugh. It's not even just about being truthful, I'm making observations about what comedians are getting actual laughs in the year 2023. Doesn't make sense why you'd look at comedy only within the blinders of the last 2 years, the pandemic era. Adults will look at this differently

    I’m over 40

How doesn’t it make sense to look at something in a recent frame? I’m saying in the last year or so I had to personally stop watching all comedy because I’m just not that interested in trans issues personally. I’m not judging comedy as a whole art form I’m telling you about my experience in the last year

If that's your perspective, yeah you're staying consistent imo and that's totally fair. Agree that trans issues have become way more popular on comedy podcasts and routines in general. And if that's not your interest, I would be annoyed too

My point of view is - there's a reason it's become more prevalent, and that's because it's still a really drastic and recent shift considering the big picture of human history. There are gonna be takes we agree with and others we don't. I'm sure there are pro-trans comedians making pro-trans jokes that you would find funny, the point is, if there is any comedian avoiding the topic altogether, I doubt they're funny

I also wanna be clear again that it’s honestly not the angles and I wouldn’t like pro trans stuff any more. I just feel like the issue is over represented and I don’t feel like it’s just because it’s a change, I think it’s also
because it’s kind of low hanging fruit for a joke

The reason for the prevalence imo is an increase in pandering for reactions, the internet has messed things up in all art forms in that sense. Successful artists/comedians aren’t stupid people, they know what works. And today what works is pandering to these culture war issues which don’t even effect the average person. I live in a liberal city and I’ve met like 10 transgender people in my life but if you watch these comics you would think it’s half the population

Watch the doc what is a woman. Strange times were living in and all the d**** given to children for s***change in America is so hard for people to wrap their mind around it.

Appears just children but you know how it goes on here. Trump gives bait for many people versus him focusing on "trans care for those 18 and up just not kids"

He says "all ages eventually" in the video

I dont think this is just politicians catering to an audience I genuinely believe they just use transphobia as a talking point because they genuinely dont have any real talking points

It seems like a commen theme with right wing politics:
Like in Germany and Italy the refugees, Britain the Brexit and also transphobia and in USA the woke culture, transphobia etc.

Politicians on the right boast up these controversies to make them so unbelievably important that their dumb voter base believe them

I miss 2016 era Trump. I don’t really get what he is even doing now. What he and Bernie did in 2016 was the most entertaining moments in the history of modern politics

I remember him holding a lgbt flag on stage in 2015

Sadly as soon as he was in tho he was enacting anti trans s*** like ban in military etc. And that was very very predictable. He was a republican president after all that's their bread and butter. Now he gonna come out anti trans even stronger because its an area DeSantis really goes for

I think trans recognition for teenagers is important . At what minimum age can someone get trans treatment, the cost for teens, how much their brain is developing always comes up. Especially in America as people become more and more understanding of trans people. Then at the same age we have less and less freedoms

The age should be 18. Once you are an adult then you should be able to do what you want with your body.

You do realize a young person deciding to take puberty blockers and hormones is never just an impulsive decision, right? The entire process has the young person being guided along by medical and mental health professionals. It’s never an uneducated decision.
