Like we make slight "it's because you're black/white " jokes all the time.

We call each other fat and ugly.

Y’all crazy act like you’ve never made a mistake before. Guys a fossil just making a dumb joke about the current situation we are all in. Yes it was about someone Asian who are unfairly ridiculed sometimes in this country and I know you want to hold people to such high standards but whaever happened to holding each other to standards of empowerment and forgiveness forwards each other rather than a cancel culture that is as toxic as it helpful which creates these types of Stereotypes forwards all types of people in the first place.

maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but doesnt he still have his job at the university, but just not in the form of teaching duties? changes how severe the punishment really is, for all we know dude could be back on teaching duties in a few years or so. even next semester?

It’s clear the student doesn’t speak English well and likely harder for them to pick up on a joke

Plenty of Chinese people have been the target of crazy amounts of racism over the last few months in the exact same way Muslims faced it after 9/11

This is someone in a position of authority and in front of many other students making a joke about this kid that is a racist joke. It’s pretty harmless but it’s at his expense and it’s targeted to his race and nationality

I do think it’s pretty harmless but professors shouldn’t be making this kind of joke at all especially to kids who they don’t know and especially not in front of a large group. He shouldn’t be fired but he definitely made a mistake

I don't see the problem, dude made a corny old man joke and then asked the student if he was alright afterwards, plus the student wasn't even offended either. Yeah he's a teacher but most teachers who aren't uptight throw out corny jokes to lighten up the mood sometimes.
