It's quite obvious the Soros stuff is just thinly-veiled antisemitism

The big "puppetmaster" of the left-wing and social liberalism is a rich jewish man who goes against "The West" and "Real America"

They act like their side isn't being funded by the Koch Brothers.

IMO the Kochs are quite irrelevant now, they were more supportive of the neocons if anything

Relevant RW funders include the Mercers, Thiel, Ellison, Bannon, etc.

Those listed above are into the current hardline and want to push further right

Good point; you're entirely right about the hypocrisy from the GOP. Everything is a conspiracy about a 94 year old Hungarian Jewish man, but suddenly the massive donors funding the Republican party are off the hook?

I see a lot of opinions in here, but ultimately what it comes down to for me is would the world (or atleast America in this case) be a better place without tik tok. And I think majority of the people on here would say yes, the world would be better without it.

-The trends are becoming super cringe
-all these couples are faking a happy relationship to please people they've never met
    -people are becoming more shallow,
-it's f***ing up childrens' attention span
-its f***ing up the music business and the way we consume content in general

None of these are unique to TikTok or exceptionally amplified by it

Cringe trends existed before it (tide pods bro)
    YouTube couples literally exist
Everything else is not unique to TikTok. A different company will just do the same thing

It's a lot of things that are bad for America but we don't ban them lol. The US was founded on the principle of individual liberty, meaning people have the liberty to do things that might be net-negatives for themselves or society.

All we're doing with this s*** is just becoming another Russia or China; censoring and blocking stuff we don't like because the other guys own it, or because it's eroding the quality of society in a roundabout way.

I don't buy the government's argument of 'security' or 'privacy' either. The CIA literally hoards chip vulnerabilities and instructs semi-conductor manufacturers to install backdoors in their products so they can spy on anyone at any time. I feel like they're just threatened by their surveillance monopoly more than anything else.

If tiktok goes away and YouTube shorts or Instagram reels takeover, I wonder if they will come at Facebook or Google over viral challenges leading to death as well.

It's not an app problem. It's a dumb ass society problem

Like I said earlier, this isn't really about building a foundation for data privacy in America, it's just nationalist hawking and protecting the various interests in Silicon Valley which are as in line with the government as ByteDance and Tencent are with the CCP

I know a lot of y'all ITT want TikTok gone, but do y'all know what's going to come with that

    congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/686/text

In essence, this bill allows for the government to ban the following

    hardware (modems, routers, CAMERAS)
    software (including VPNs)
    digital content (entertainment, information)
    any other technology
From any entity it considered hostile (currently Cuba, Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela, subject to change )

This bill also allows for the government to acquire, access, and control any existent systems produced by those countries without any consumer knowledge, allowing for uninterrupted surveillance and control over private citizens’ systems

This all occurs under the President’s appointed (not elected) Secretary of Commerce, who in turn appoints (doesn’t elect) their own committee who can make any decisions relating to this new power behind closed doors. They have no preceding requirement to disclose any of what is occurring

Any sort of punishment under this law can lead to 20 years in prison or a $1,000,000 fine, all of which can be caused by something as simple as using a VPN

Thanks for summing it up in Politics @americana

As xenophobic and insane as the Patriot Act, but people here think disliking Tiktok counts as a personality so they pretend they do not see it 🫣
