    I agree with this take

    Re: good 2 shoes:

Am I accurate in thinking happy rap as a whole fell off? I mean bubble gum Yachty era, dram/shelly , chance

Seems like that entire wave died a death (props to Yachty for reinventing himself with his Detroit style)

Yeah and time to say "happy rap" always sucked

Chance got popular off of his unique style, his incredible beat selection and his charming personality.

Coloring book proved chance could maintain his style while also appealing to the mainstream, as long as he kept the charming persona up.

What really killed chance wasent just a bad record (SB2H didn't kill Cudi's career), it was his arrogance about how dogshit his record was. He took all the criticism personally, hopped online to insult fans who were disappointed with his project, then blamed his long term manager for the album's disastrous reception.

Chance didn't lose a career to a changing sound and environment. Chance killed his career by acting like a self righteous d*** over his awful album.

it’s been nearly 3 years and he’s done almost nothing to try and reverse this too

Tbh I think the main issue is that the album was tooooo long. I think if this project was cut down to 40-45 minutes nobody would of trashed it. Atleast not as bad as they do now

Can say this for so many albums. Why oh why is it taboo to have a short concise replayable project

A long dumpster fire just makes me mad and feel like I got robbed of my time lol

No it was compounded by that bullshit album and @op you a grade A dummy for thinking otherwise

He never matched 10 day or acid rap

  • Mar 1, 2022

    Lol

  • flizzy 999

His best move at this point is stick to his friends and close collaborations Smino, Noname, Saba, Towkio etc. and just make chill music it would feel more authentic

They all seem to be doing pretty well for themselves

People putting his career in the grave over one dud album is wild, internet hyperbole is insane

it’s not just the album it’s the whole Big Day era really tbh

  • Mar 1, 2022

    WESLEY THE GREAT

The fact Chance didn’t drop another album 6 months-a year after The Big Day was probably another fatal mistake.

Chance can be in denial all he wants about his album being trash, but him failing to sell out arenas when he was doing it with ease during the Coloring Book era speaks for itself.

Hmm then again roddy tried to preview new music shortly after a poorly received album and people basically ran him off the internet for a week

  • Mar 1, 2022

Off the strength of this alone I know he still has it somewhere in him

You’re accurate. I think Yachty saw the writing on the wall and that’s why Lil Boat 2 & 3 were more straight rapping then the melodic rapping he was doing before.

Imagine J Cole waited 3 years after FNL only to drop Cole Word Sideline Story and then started telling people to eat some d***s after they criticized the album. It's more than just dropping a bad album, plenty of artists drop bad debut albums and survive

Niggas will try anything but accept that chance put some stupid s*** out and nobody was rockin with it

Lmao for sure an awful album, you just dont see a career ended everyday ya know

y’all think he can bounce back?

I kinda have a feeling he was never really as creative as he seemed. like, ppl around him were helping a lot and they’re either gone or doing their own thing now.

Too late for him to make a comeback imo

Roddy still has the chance to comeback though. If he’s smart and plays his cards right, he can win people back and move on from the L.

  • Interestingly enough, the current crop of rappers on top aren’t exactly marvel family friendly lol

what was funny was how much he focused on the "don't need a label/organic" thing, then the soundcloud rap era came immediately afterwards and made such a comeup/situation a totally ordinary thing
