the thing with The Big Day to me is there's NO WAY that's the album he was sitting on from 2016-2019. So where did those songs go???

Im guessing he just scrapped that project.

Am I misremembering or was part of it that he did have significant label and industry backing, even if it wasn’t a formal signed contract

thats a big part of it too (getting money from Apple for SURF and COLORING BOOK for partial) but at the very least even if he had been telling the full truth, thats not even particularly novel anymore post-2016

Anything but another big day nightmare. That s*** made me laugh so hard I f***ed up my appendix

When do you think Chance realized he f***ed up with The Big Day?

When the ticket sales for The Big Day tour were horrific or when Kanye was screaming at him and mentioned how his album was a flop?

Ticket sales probably, hate is always loud on the internet but when people start voting with their wallets you know something is up

He’s scrapped probably about half of them and the other half, he released in 2018 as the singles.

I was a heavy Cole stan in high school but that nigga's discography is terrible for someone in his position.

The off season is his best studio album imo

Chance became over political and his image was played out.

    Literally

Cudi dropped SBTH and became the internets punching bag for a bit and then he started dropping and promoting PPDS songs A MONTH AND A HALF later

sometimes you got a put your pride to the side and realize sometimes your fans know what they want

Bad example because cudi would routinely go against the grain. He only recently started pandering to popular opinion.

Yeah It was hard to hear in the video because they put some special effect over the footage, but he said something about his album flopping and that’s why he needs to sit his ass down or leave.

What would tou tell him if you were his manager / creative director?

Get a Hit-Boy or soulful Ye produced album, people will hop back on him

Truthfully this is all speculation. I don’t know if he was ever planning on releasing an album on 2017/2018, but he should’ve in hindsight.

IMO he actually was the last artist to blow up from the blog era

Blog era was good and dead by 2016 when CB dropped so it got nothing to do wit Big Day which was like 2018-2019. It was an ok album to me but Chance brand don’t really match with what mfs want from their rappers rn. Family, non street Nigga with a bunch of mainstream connections/seems like an industry plant and his parents vaguely connected to the Obama Administration.

He needs to rebrand into something totally new if he’s never going back to Acid Rap type s***

Was thinking about this and how the blog era died around the same time, the fakeshoredrives, 2dopeboyz,etc

Chance blew up in that era, and I can’t figure out if his disastrous album was the final nail in the coffin in turning public opinion against that subgenre

    OR

Was the genre already on it’s deathbed and the fading popularity made a return to form that much more difficult for him?

    Thoughts?

for once a big-brain thought on this site is correct

And you’ll probably see MOTM3 getting praise like PP&DS is getting now years later.

apparently he made the majority of, if not, the entire album in a couple of weeks. he did a similar thing with colouring book but i really don’t know how we ended up with the big day
